News front page - articles not by date

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this thread, so feel free to move it...

I have noticed on a few occasions, that the top section on the Home page (red outline) of mygaming.co.za, does not always contain the newest news posts. I was wondering if this is by choice, or if how does the red section decide which posts are shown?

Why I ask...

I often open the home page, and if those top 4 are articles I have already read, then I close the page. As you can clearly see from my screenshot, the blue outlined articles are newer, and appear under the old posts of yesterday. I have missed these on a few occasion.

Anyone else see this or know whaddup?

I can explain :)

The red headline section is for headline articles; those we deem more important, newsworthy, or conversation starting than the others. Don't hate me, it's not an exact science ;)

There is a publication schedule for the headline articles, the idea being that people who visit the site throughout the day are hopefully greeted with a new headline story each time.

By the way, thanks for reading absolutely everything - we love you!

The articles in the blue section are what we term 'side' articles - those are quick doses of news content.

All of the articles will cascade downwards in order of their publication. The headline articles also do this.

Usually we update with enough 'sides' during the day to completely roll-over that section, and you therefore won't see the headline articles in that section as they are 'older' content. Over the weekends you may notice the headline articles appearing in that blue section, as we don't have as many updates.

Also note that we tag the headline articles with the tag 'headline' - by clicking on that you are taken to a page with only the headline stories.

The 'side' articles are tagged 'active' and that has the same effect.

Finally, there are of course the section tabs at the top where you can go to catch up on news you may have missed. I am busy in the process of redesigning those tabs so they look nicer and a more sensible logical structure.

Thanks for the question, feel free to ask more!
