Next-gen consoles not likely backwards compatible, reckons EA

1. Do people really go back and play old games? Really?

2. With the new gen consoles being mid level PC specs...PC guys will be able to emulate the 'exclusives' fairly easily :P
Some of us like to reminisce, and play an old game.
I love to do that. Fortunately, all of my old games are only on PC :)

1. Every year I play through the Half-Life and Splinter Cell franchises on my PC. And on my consoles I played through the Assassins Creed franchise in anticipation for AC3. Also played through the Uncharted franchise again this year.

2. Yeah... I really enjoyed playing Halo3, Halo ODST, Halo4, Uncharted1-3 and God of War1-3 on my PC...... Oh wait no.... I didn't.....

Is anyone really legitimately expecting these things to be backward compatible?

It would be nice, but corporate greed wins out. Why include backwards compatibility when you can just take a game, up the resolution and sell it to people again as a HD re-release?

Notice he said 'emulate?' As in, use an emulator.

Though I don't think there are any working PS3 or 360 emulators out there. The only ones I've seen require monster PCs to emulate consoles.

Wonderful. So when your beloved XBOX 360 or PS3 breaks in about 2-3 years time (which it will) and the consoles have reached their end-of-life, so you can't just go out and buy a new one; what exactly are you going to do with the games that you bought?

Dude, the PS2 got manufactured up until last year and it still gets sold in a lot of places. I highly doubt people are going to have issues finding the PS3 or Xbox 360 for purchase for quite a while yet.

I started playing Baldur's Gate 2 again yesterday. Planescape Torment is up next.

Nah, I noticed.... My comment still stands. I'd like to think that I am particularly involved with the gaming scene and any tech/apps out there in the big wide world and I have yet to see or know of anyone who was actually using an emulator, or at least have a functioning (read: actually works 100% and isn't terrible) one.

PS3 Emulator is about as good as it gets with only several fully functional games that it can play. As for Xbox............ terrible.....

Current gen emulation is not nice, but if the next gen is going to be rocking notebook spec amd cpu and gpu... Then it should be a far easier thing to do.

As for old games... I very seldom play dated stuff on console. Usually if I do play something old, it is on pc and it is to play a new mod :)

Think about it. Uncharted Full HD Collection! :D

I use too, but to be honest its one of things i mean to do, but never actually get around to. So many new games come out now, that I currently have a huge back log of games i've bought but haven't played yet, let alone go back to an old game.

That is exactly the problem. Every steam sale my collection grows by a few games...and I almost never go back to play them. Just not enough gaming hours per week.
