i think that they will continue going, but they are not really achieving potential anymore, after the wii.

They really need to re-invent themselves

I would more say they not doing very well than they are in trouble, its not like they haven't made mistakes in the past. I'm sure they will learn from it.

Dammit...I voted 'No', based on the thread title. Meanwhile, the polling question is different. So that's actually a 'Yes' then.

Their sales may be down cause of the Wii U and everything but pretty sure when they bring out their new console this year or in the future they will go up again.

I plan on only getting one next-gen console and it's the one I already have - the Wii-U. The only one with full backwards compatibility, and in my opinion the most fun party system where people who aren't gamers at all can pick up a controller and join in almost any game. That is the real awesomesauce from Nintendo.

What about the 3DS that they have sold more than a 100 million of? How many vita's have been sold? If you look at the financials Sony is in far more crap than Nintendo is.

Im not 100% sure, but i think the Wii made them an absolute fortune... Im sure it sold more than the PS3 and 360, so the Wii U has been a flop, but they are far from dead and buried...

Seems like every second one they make is the flop.

I will I am eager to see what they going to bring out next to top the 3ds and replacement for Wii U.

It might be a while though. Abandoning a console so soon will show no confidence in their products, which they have vehemently tried to uphold.

I'll think you'll have to wait a few years.

They seem to do 3-6 years so wouldn't be surprised its out next year the earliest.

Funny, how nobody has noticed that when they lowered their forecast on number of consoles sold from 9 million to 3 million (67% lower) they only dropped the forecast on games for the console from 19 million to something like 17 million. So they expected the average console owner to only buy 2 games, yet they are buying more than 5 atm. Buy first-party games only and you'll have a blast.

Agreed. It is what they are good at.

Well its no secret that the Wii was the best selling console of the previous generation.

I honestly think that Nintendo would be better off dumping the Wii U and solely focusing on their handhelds.

I had the opportunity the other day to use a 3DS for about 4 hours and in that time I really considered getting one. Its just such a cool little machine with so many wonderful games.

But to the answer the OP's original question, no I don't think that Nintendo's in trouble.

Sony announced the layoff of 5,000 employees. I don't Nintendo is the company in trouble ;)

Also the Wii was the best selling console of the previous generation and the Wii-U can play ALL Wii games. Therefore it is the natural upgrade path for those who had Wiis and are looking to play games in full HD.
