No BlizzCon in 2012 because Blizzard is too busy making games

Blizzard Cancels Blizzcon 2012

Blizzard has decided to cancel its yearly convention in order to focus on its upcoming projects.
It's the end of days! Well, not entirely, but fans of Starcraft and World of Warcraft are going to have to go a whole extra year without BlizzCon, as Blizzard announced its cancelling this year's convention.
"In light of our jam-packed schedule," Blizzard stated, "We've decided to hold the next BlizzCon in 2013."
In its place, Blizzard will be hosting the 2012 Battle.net World Championship in Asia towards the end of the year. Gamers worldwide can attend the eSports event, which will feature "some of the most skilled pro players on the planet [battling] it out for cash and glory."
it's not entirely a surprise that Blizzard might be looking to refocus its efforts, especially with Diablo 3, Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm and the next WoW expansion Mists of Panderia all coming up over the next year or so, on top of any secret projects it may have under wraps.
BlizzCon itself has been a yearly event since 2005, with the one exception of 2006 in which Blizzard decided to hold off on hosting the event. Blizzard has used its convention in the past to announce details about its upcoming projects.

wtf!

Which also means they won't be revealing/announcing anything new? So much for finding out about project Titan...

I think this might be a monetary issue as well. With so many projects going on at once, I think they are quite strapped for cash at the moment.

i guess it makes sense but now hopefully we will definitely see D3 by christmas time.. working on games is better than blizzcon which ive never attended or seen so this actually hopefully will benefit me more:)

I can't blame them to be honest.

Blizzcon tickets are fairly expensive, but Blizzard still runs Blizzcon each year at a considerable loss. They rely purely on the hype up to and leading from it to recover the expenses.

Ill find it hard to believe that they will struggle with money.

I think its a good sign if they prefer to dedicate all their time and resources to their current projects. Not that we in SA care seeing as maybe a handful of us will ever get the chance to go to such events overseas.

I posted this in the other thread about this topic but may as well post it here too.

I agree I don't think they are struggeling with money, but as I said above Blizzcon is run at a considerable loss.

It could be that they are simply taking a different approach, putting a higher priority on the Battle.net World championship. It could also be that they simple don't have enough interesting information to release at Blizzcon just yet.

Activision/Blizzard struggling for cash? If that's the case then NO developer out there stands a chance.
