No dedicated PC servers for Far Cry 3

I'm not really sure why Tarryn seems to be taking such a negative attitude towards PC gamers who are unhappy with this in the start of the article?

This is pretty bad news. A lack of dedicated servers can really make or break a game's multiplayer on PC.

Well, I don't really think anybody was going to buy Far Cry 3 just for the multiplayer, it actually a reverse COD where you buy the game for the SP, although the MP is nice.

Far Cry 2's multiplayer was a big mess, I could never find a game on the internet, the only time I played it online was on a Himachi( or something like that) hosted lan game. We played at our lan a few times, but it nothing exceptional.

The SA gaming community is too small and too snobbish for such a game to work, unfortunately.

Another dead on arrival multiplayer game for South Africa. Games like HoN and DOTA2, you can get away with, with 300ms latency.
Not FPS games...

FC3 will be forgotten 3 months after release unless it's multiplayer platform is next gen.

Yeah, but Dedicated servers really help prolong the lifespan of smaller MP games like this. Hosting a game from a player's machine is often an issue simply because it makes it hard to find someone who can actually host a game. Not everyone has the line or the PC to be able to host a game for others, and even if you find someone who can, the server pretty much lives and dies with him, as he's not going to keep a server running for other people when he gets bored of playing the game.

Dedicated servers just make everything so much easier.

To be honest, the SA community is just too small to really support anything but the biggest titles. If it's not COD, CS, BF or DOTA then the MP probably isn't going to last more than a few months in SA anyway.

Yeah, but without dedicated servers, it won't even last those few months. You might pick up a local game here and there if you're very lucky, but otherwise it's going to be pretty much dead on arrival.

MP is not essential in this game at all. I played FC2 through at least 4 times that I can remember in SP only. I got plenty of entertainment from that alone.

FC2 multiplayer was actually really good. Me and a few friends had quite a few all-nighters with that game. There was this one map with this hill in the middle, and we've continuously fight for control of the hill. Some of my fondest LAN memories are from FC2 MP, even though I absolutely hated the SP.

The unreliable guns, the fact that you can set fire to the grass, the day and night and weather cycles, MP was actually fun. Gas bottles that would fly all over the place before detonating.

Ah crap, now I want to play it again.
