No Oculus meant no Carmack for id Software

I agree with the man's decision. Carmack has never been the type of person that gets held up by politics and short-sighted views of future trends. That company didn't deserve him and his addition to Oculus is a major boon to the technology itself. I can't wait for a retail product to become available. The future is definitely looking good for VR. FINALLY!

I think ID's decision will come back to bite them in the ass at a later stage when the rift makes a big dent in their gaming franchise and then they will prolly come running to carmac and say help us make this playable on the rift please and then i if i was him i'd show them the one way finger :p

It's essentially more ZeniMax than id. But I agree with Carmack - I don't see the oculus as the future of gaming, I do see it as an impressive stepping stone though.

What do you see as the future of gaming then if VR is not it?

I'd be a billionaire if I knew. VR is encumbering on the immersing experience which cuts you off visually from the world around you. This is neat, but not for social or casual gaming which are the market strengths.

We're missing something, not sure what, but this is not necessarily the next big step.
