Noctua NH-D14 CPU heatsink review (MyGaming)

My ram is too high so that won't fit.
You should state that anyone living in the hot regions of Africa would also greatly benefit from this not just overclockers :p

ps when comparing size its important for the camera to be on the same angle since angle changes the perspective, but at least you can see by the one is going over the ram an the other one not.

The major downfall of this CPU cooler, as mentioned above, is that it will not fit in a case where a user has RAM modules with tall heatsinks installed. And seeing that this is an enthusiast cooler, it would seem pretty obvious to assume the user buying this cooler has some fance RAM modules already.

Also, the rating of 5/5 seems wrong as there is some key faults with this cooler - so, how can something achieve 5/5 whilst still having some obvious limitations? That means the scoring means nothing at all?

Some people skim over details and just look at a score. How can a rating system out of 5 tell you anything much anyway? There are so many possible combinations of hardware set ups that a scoring system is pretty much redundant in my books anyway. We do it because it has become expected. If a stock cooler is a 0/5 then this is right at the opposite end of the scale in my books, hence IMO it gets a 5/5. Should I have given it a 4/5 because 'nothing is perfect'? If so, why bother even having the scale go to 5? Should the rating be based on comparisons to all other coolers out there (frankly I don't have the time for that)? In a few months a better cooler comes out and then the rating would be made redundant again anway.

At a glance, 5/5 tells you it's really good, so I'm sticking to it. It is only my humble opinion anyway.

The issue of ram heatsinks is important, thanks for bringing it up. I should have mentioned that in my article. I will edit accordingly.

Ok,so it WILL NOT work with tall ram. Is this fact? Sorry for reopening an old post.

Correct.
In a board with 4 slots, like the one in the photos, it will throw it's weight all the way over the first bank of 2 slots.
So... 2 slots unusable if its tall RAM.
Possibly could even touch the 1st slot in the second bank, actually.

Crumbs, then what can I use for my i7 960? The thermaltake V8? The reviews ive seen arent that positive.

V8 is pretty cool! (pun intended)

I've OCed my i7 870 from stock 2.9 stock to 3.67 comfortably. Could go higher except my study is like a freakin oven and ambient temp too high!
