Nvidia 3D Vision

So more and more games are coming out that are "3D Ready", especially if you have a Nvidia based system. How many of you have started planning on going this route with your hardware? I am trying to source a pair of glasses, but I cannot find a place that sells these things locally. Then there's the issue of finding a compatible monitor

This seems like an excellent monitor for what I need it for....now the issue, where the heck do you buy these glasses locally?

I have a 2494HS Monitor here at work, only saw now that it has sterioscopic 3d in the nvidia control panel. LOL!

But Don't you need a 100MHZ+ Refresh rate on the monitor?

Technically any monitor will work, but your only going to get 30FPS on a 60hz, assuming your setup maintains 60FPS. 100hz/120hz will get 50FPS and 60FPS, once again assuming your setup can maintain 100 and 120 FPS. Basically for 3D you half your frame rate as the output must be rendered twice, once for each eye.

Neo, I know there's a pair of the color Nvidia shutter glasses on bidorbuy for like 1.8k. Other than that, don't know where else locally. I know Take 2 and other such sites can bring them in from the UK/US for a bit more.

I'm personally going to wait for a decent sized HDMI 1.4 compliant monitor before I hop on the 3D bandwagon.

Try Cafe Viva in Claremont Cape Town or Landmarkpc.co.za. I've seen it at Cafe Viva. It's pricy though...

Geesh I've been searching google stukkend today and I have to agree, I'm with you on this one. It's just not taken up properly yet and I have a feeling that it's not the right time to buy this stuff yet. I'm also rather going to wait for a nice size 3D capable monitor and then see if these 3D Vision glasses from Nvidia don't become available locally.

I'm guessing this won't happen in 2010 though.

On the other hand though, I have been fortunate enough to try a 3D vision setup out myself. Really quite awesome, hands down the most immersive setup money can buy. I see it becoming a big thing when it becomes more affordable.

When HDMI 1.4 compliant screens come on the scene, we will see competing glasses come out, there were few unveiled already, so prices are going to drop in that area substantially. It will be supported by both NVidia and ATI as well, so you will be able to use the glasses on either setup. Basically, if we have a little more patience, we should be seeing much more affordable 3D setups on decent monitors early 2011.

I am going to wait for this whole thing to settle down before I look into buying it. Often the forerunners in any new tech tend to suffer from problems like pricing, performance and others. But I must say I am keen when the dust settles, although my eyes may explode from strain :p

Uhm, guys? This is very ironic. I bought the NAG this week and read last night that ASUS have released a 27 inch, 1920x1080 3D capable 120Hz LCD monitor. So I'm thinking my time for waiting is almost over because the minute I see this monitor available locally, it's bought, alone with a pair (or two?) of those Nvidia 3D Vision glasses.

I cannot wait to see what Bad Company 2 looks like in flippen 3D! It has to be amazing!!

Nvidia only is not 50% of the market available in 3D as every game made, even when compatible with Nvidia cards will not be compatible with 3D viewing. It may be close, but I seriously doubt it will be all so say 40-45% at best. The glasses and high refresh monitor would probably be about 450 dollars + whatever over 150 you pay for the video card with glasses. As far as it being Nvidia, and the glasses most likely being offered with at least there higher end video cards,

Does anyone else get confused when reading this reply?

No idea at all what he's going on about.

On the note of the ASUS screen. I saw it yesterday when googling around for 3D capable monitors and it seems pretty good. I have 0 experience with ASUS monitors though, give it a test drive plz? =)

The figures on the screen looks good. 20,000:1 contrast ratio, 2ms response time with 27" screen size. The resolution of 1920x1080 is a small step backwards from my T260, but I doubt you'll get a 3D capable monitor with a higher res than that. It sounds promising....I'll definitely go look at it once it hits our shores.

I think I'll wait for the tech to mature a little more before I invest in it. It seems waaaay too gimmicky right now.

Actually, Nvidia's 3D Vision tech has come a long way. I think the time for waiting is pretty much at an end really. For televisions I agree that the 3D stuff is still early, but for PC's, it's looking good NOW already.
