NVidia 8600GT problems

Hi friends,

So I've had my 8600GT for a over a year now and I think it's giving me hassles.

Symptoms:

1) My pc will randomly freeze up and continue to do so unless I let it stand for a good few minutes - indicating heat problems.

2) My gfx will become fuzzy in games and I have to minimize them to refresh back to normal styles.

3) My one mate has the same card and has to put a desktop fan on his to keep it cool.

So - has anyone else had overheating issues with them? I have new ram/mobo/etc. in my box, so I'm going to reserve fault finding on them for now.

If it is the card - what other gfx card can I get around the R1k mark that will run nicely?

My screen setup:

1x32" LCD TV (720p) (DVI->HDMI cable)
1x17" CRT (1280x1024)

Best is to have a look at what temps it's running at. Download GPU-Z and run something like 3DMark to stress the card and check the temps.

If it's temps then you should be able to jerry rig an extra fan to help cool it down. Or it might just need a good cleaning

Cool cool - will give that a shot.

The last time i fixed a Gfx card, was my old 5600. I ended up soldering a cap onto it when it stopped working. 4 years later and it's still operating like a demon!
