Nvidia GTX680..As close to benchmarks we'll have untill the card launches.

The Joker

Thread Killer MKII
So I know many of the guys out there are really looking forward to the release of Nvidia's new "Mid Range" Card.
The following was picked up from Techpower up about 10min ago and gives an idea what can be expected.
Still no proper benchmarks though but a good read.

Here are some key bits of information concerning the upcoming GeForce GTX 680, a performance single-GPU graphics card based on the 28 nm GK104 GPU by NVIDIA. The information, at face value, is credible, because we're hearing that a large contingent of the media that finds interest in the GPU industry, is attending the Game Developers Conference, where it could interact with NVIDIA, on the sidelines. The source, however, is citing people it spoke to at CeBIT.

First, and most interesting: with some models of the GeForce 600, NVIDIA will introduce a load-based clock speed-boost feature (think: Intel Turbo Boost), which steps up clock speeds of the graphics card when subjected to heavy loads. If there's a particularly stressing 3D scene for the GPU to render, it overclocks itself, and sees the scene through. This ensures higher minimum and average frame-rates.
Second, you probably already know this, but GK104 does indeed feature 1,536 CUDA cores, which lend it a strong number-crunching muscle that helps with shading, post-processing, and GPGPU.

Third, the many-fold increase in CUDA cores doesn't necessarily amount to a linear increase in performance, when compared to the previous generation. The GeForce GTX 680 is about 10% faster than Radeon HD 7970, in Battlefield 3. In the same comparison, the GTX 680 is slower than HD 7970 at 3DMark 11.

Fourth, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 will very much launch in this month. It won't exactly be a paper-launch, small quantities will be available for purchase, and only through select AIC partners. Quantities will pick up in later months.

Lastly, GK110, the crown-jewel of the Kepler GPU family, will feature as many as 2,304 CUDA cores. There's absolutely no word on its whereabouts. The fact that NVIDIA is working on a dual-GK104 graphics card indicates that we won't see this chip very soon.

Seems interesting, but I can see the price point is going to be high. How much do you think it's going to cost Joker?

Well a lot of "Special people" were saying $350, but that's fucking stupid.
There is no way that a brand new piece of tech from Nvidia will cost that much.

If it beats the 7970 completely then expect it to sell for $550 -$600
If it only barely beats it (10% or less) It'll sell for $450 -$500

From what I am seeing and what I am reading this new card isn't looking to impressive if I am honest.
We'll know more when we have proper benchmarks though, its hard to go on what people say.

If it turns out that the card only beats the 7970 in bf3 by a 10% margin then I would say Nvidia have failed.
Seeing as the 7970 has HUGE overclocking ability, and I am pretty sure the Nvidia still won't clock like that.

All speculation though, no one knows at this point.

But then again Joker you are the AMD gpu fanboi lol.
Middle next year when both 7xxx and 6xx are out and prices stabilize then what will happen if the 6xxx is a better performer. Price difference won't be as big between them which will be when Nvidia will shine.
Early adopters usually go for what comes out first and at the moment the 7xxx is far better then the 5xx. Thats the part where AMD shine. I actually really am surprised that AMD gpu's aren't more popular then they are at the moment.

lol no not really, Own a GTX580 and a GTX570, and I love them both just as much as I love my AMD cards.
Also AMD are also working on the 8xxx and that is expected to launch end of this year.

Any and everything is speculation at this point, if the GTX680 is only 10% faster in BF3 and slower in most other titles and 3Dmark I can't see how Nvidia will call this a win, it has to be faster across the board, not just in a single title.
Also if it turns out that the Nvidia really is slower in 3DMark they'll lose quite a lot of their overclocking/benchmarking customers as they don't have brand loyalty, they only care about having the best/highest scores.

Yeah the guy has now signed a NDA so no more benches, but those were confirmed to be real. So it gives you a good idea of what the card runs at. Would still be better to wait for official benches though...which shouldn't be far off now.
haha for fanbois the wait is a lot longer lol. SUFFER! lol

@1920*1200 the gtx 680 - 79 fps and the hd 7970 - 68 fps. This was on an average of 6 games including Hawx 2, Skryrim, Crysis 2, Dirt 3, BF 3 and WoW. This is according to tom's hardware but that chart has been removed.

There is a reason they keep removing it, because its either not valid or the nda hasn't been lifted.
Just relax and wait for them to post actual benchmarks through well known site ie Guru3D, hardwarekanucs ect.

Is this going to become a trend where nvidia(or AMD) launches a card for $500 and call it mid-range. I know nvidia is expensive but I really can't see someone paying $500 for a mid-range card? I sure as hell can't afford $500 for a card.

Its not a mid range card, its the card that replaces the GTX580, lets get that out the way and then yes who in their right minds prices a mid range card at $550 lol I am buying one on release, I wanna see how it compares to my 7970's, I know its gonna be close with both cards winning some and losing others, its def not gonna be a massive difference. Also AMD are likely to cut the price of the 7970 down to around $425, which means it still under cuts the 680.

It's just that sites referred to gk104 as nvidia's mid range and I think gk110 was suppose to be high-end. That was before it got named gtx 680. If there is a price cut on the hd 7970 will that not start a chain reaction of price cuts on lower cards in the range. Would that end up affecting the hd 7850 price as well?

That's just Nvidia Trolling.
Most likely the prices of the 7xxx will drop, by how much no one knows but i know they will.
Remember the 7970 has been out for more than 3 months...so AMD have already sold plenty of them..they won't have a problem dropping the price.

coming from a 260 gtx I wouldn't complain :)

Hell yes lmao xD
