Nvidia GTX780 already available in SA: pricing

Quite pricy and the weirdest looking GPU that I have seen :wtf: do people actually pay more than 4k for GPUs?

so why do they even bring them out at that price then always baffles me :p

can see people paying that much for whole systems but not for each part

For prospective GTX680 owners, yes indeed. If you want a GTX680 Lightning, that's around R7400. I've never seen a GTX680 cheaper than R5000 before.

Its been like this for ages. Both Nvidia and AMD have a gentleman's agreement that the launch price of their flagship cards for new families isn't more than $550. That's the sweet spot for targeting enthusiasts and people looking for an upgrade from about two generation-old cards. Only recently have we seen products in the $1000 range because both companies realised that not only is there a great deal of people with that amount of money to spend (especially in the US with the popular Macbooks), there's also a lot of people who want the ultimate bragging rights.

I know just cant see the reason to pay so much unless you need it for work in graphic design or autocad and since games work on quite a range of GPU cards these days so no need to have the best of the best :p

Guess its like with everything else if people are willing to pay for it they will up the price until people complain, look at the food price here which goes up and up even when the petrol goes down :p

Sometimes it just comes down to getting a good deal at the time :) I got a good deal where I sold my old GTX 560 and paid in a lil' more to get my GTX 680. Not the type of card I'd normally consider when I build a pc. Normally I'd go mid range like the GTX 560 at the time and in 2 years, upgrade again.

I'm not sure what the upgrade life cycle on a card like the 680 is though. I mean I wouldn't consider getting a 780 for obvious reasons :)

I usually upgrade my laptop every 2 years here to at least keep playing some games and for work purposes

Havent really had a proper PC since 7 years ago.

I tried the laptop route but unless you go that High End Alienware type route, I found my laptop got dated so quickly and I just got annoyed. I like keeping my desktop and work laptop separate :)

I agree, I actually hate having to own a laptop, I only have one because I have to for work.

Havent had any problems with my Acer Travelmate 7730g its 4-5 years old and still plays new games alright with the nvidia 9600m gt card as long as I keep the laptop cool it runs fast :D.

So my new one will be purely for autocad or for just the fun of it
