Nvidia or ATI?

All I can say is stay away from the ASUS 4870. They seem to have faulty fans. My 2nd one just died after RMA'ing the 1st one. The card still works but the fan stopped working. About to post the 2nd one off which is quite irritating to say the least.

I still like ati though, and would rather stay with them than go over to nvidia, it just looks like asus messed up. At the time I bought the card it was the best bang for my buck and I do so like rooting for the underdog.

I switch from the gtx 280 to the gtx295, i am happy...

Btw i always seem to have problems with windows Vista and ATI it like they don't like each other.... Anyone else expeirencing the same problem. Keeps on crashing, if i put a ATI card in, even on a fresh install... Informed microsoft, they ATI driver, i go to ATI dowloaded the 9.2 Driver, same problem... Sent Card back got GTX 295...

Anyway the ATI Cards are currently priced ridiculously at the highed versions... Too expensive

Ati is by far the better card when it comes to bang for buck!!
I can get a top of the range 4870x2 2gig monster for around R5500.

This is like asking Mercedes or BMW. Its a matter of preference, pricing differs slightly, performance is often nearly identical but will differ by a few frame rates, and really, they're all good.

I have gone for Nvidia for years, they never fail on me and they simply last, so I will continue to go with them too :)

Pricing doesn't differ slightly mate.
The high end cards have a bout a R2000 price difference. Comparing a 4870x2 to a
295Gtx.

Yep true, but the GTX295 just launched recently.... its relatively newer than the 4870x2, thats why its more expensive ; and performance wise its faster than the 4870x2, but price wise - 2k more doesnt validate buying the GTX295.

If it drops a bit, then its the card to have.

Perhaps the brand new released cars that Nvidia sells for R8000 might differ from ATI's new cards, but I will never in my life be in the market for a card like that. Wait a few months and the same card will be less than half the price and at that point it wont be R2000 difference for an ATI that equally competes with it.

Seriously that is cheap, rectron price for that card is R8580 ex. vat and any mark up a retailer still needs to add to that... I am not sure where you getting your stuff from.

nVidia GTX295 card R2000 less ex.vat

WOW

Then there is no comparison if the prices are now swapped! GTX295 (although still WOW expensive) is the card to get.

What annoys me a little is the rebranding of cards and then advertising them as "new" cards as they did with the GTX250. Not cool.
