Nvidia Releases PhysX 3.0

Now all we need is a greater range of games :\

PhysX can do some really impressive things especially if its used for core physics processing in a game/application. Unfortunately, it will only ever be used for tacked on effects and in-house apps because obviously its limited to Nvidia cards.

Realistically, the future of physics processing rests with libraries like Bullet and Havok which can be used on any hardware. Personally I'm betting on Bullet since it already supports GPU acceleration on both Nvidia and ATI hardware and is open source licensed so it can't be "stolen" (better for everyone). 3D Mark also shifted from PhysX in Vantage to Bullet in 2011 as well as all major 3D tools (3ds Max, Maya etc.) have it integrated because of this. http://www.fxguide.com/featured/bullet_open_source_physics_engine/

If Nvidia decided to allow anyone to use PhysX, we would see a GIANT leap in game physics as PhysX is quite mature already. Its not like ATI cards can't utilize it, there was a crack driver going around for ages that enabled it.

So, yes, PhysX is awesome, damn shame it can't be used for anything significant.
