It seems that there are so many new people on here building PC's, I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread on the Age old Question... Nvidia vs AMD.

What have you always used and intend to keep using in the future?
I have personally only used Nvidia, and intend on keeping it that way unless AMD bring out a monster card at the right price.
I guess this might be one of the "Fan Boys" situations? Or does each really have it's own pros and cons?

The only thing I have heard from people and read, is that AMD drivers are good and hardly give problems.
I have for example had 2 blue screens this month alone due to Nvidia Driver updates messing about with things.

What are your thoughts?

I've always been a "best bang for buck" kinda guy, and for that reason for the most part i've been in the AMD camp. At least in terms of amount of time spent with the card in my box


HD 4830 (RMA'd and upgraded to stock single-slot 4850)
Geforce 450 (heavy discount)
HD 7770
R9 280x (2nd hand for 2.5k)
Geforce 970

EDIT: Apologies if this comes out rude, but anyone NOT doing it the way I'm doing it, and buying out of pure brand loyalty, is a complete moron.
Buy whats best overall (all things considered of course, including drivers, which games you intend to play on it etc) for you at that price point.

I personally won't use AMD as I have had a couple of bad experiences in the past and I just don't feel like parting with my money on the off chance that I could be disappointed. I'll rather stick to my nVidia cards where I have a reasonable expectation of what I'll get for my money, support, performance, etc etc etc

That is one thing I have noticed. You get people that are SUPER happy with AMD, and then others that always get faulty products. Nothing in between
 
Every AMD/ATi card I ever seem to deal with (My old work laptop, my current work monitoring desktop and my other physical monitoring display desktops) always looks a little blurry/fuzzy and I have been adjusting and fiddling with settings and drivers, but I cant ever seem to get a crisp/clear image. It's almost like they always have AA enabled or something.

Other way round for me. nvidia cards (and also now occurs every driver update, since i DDU before installing new driver) by default force the color scheme to be RGB Limited, making black be sort of washed out grey. have to manually go into settings and adjust it. AMD picks it up fine.
Everyone is gonna have SOME issues with some brands at some time. I still stand by my opinion :)

Yes, and it also depends on what issues you can live with and what you can't. I'm ok with the AMD's blurryness (in my opinion) as these are projectors and 42+" Displays that display graphs and such (little to no text that need to be read over a distance)

I've always been happy with nVidia at home, even with the occasional driver hiccup. I also run Linux at work and at home and it's hit and miss with regards to driver support on linux from both ends of the spectrum.
 
AMD VS Nvidia... who cares?

Buy what suits your budget. There's nothing wrong with either. Blind loyalty to any brand is silly.

Hehe that is exactly what this thread is about. They each have their own pros and cons in different areas.
Buy what suits your budget is more to do with the different ranges within each brand, not a real factor between the 2 brands. So that is just a silly statement :P
 
There was a time I preferred ATi (now AMD) due to their color gradients and being richer in color, I also remember their bump mapping was somewhat superior over nVidia.
