Official Elite Dangerous Thread

I'm not sure how to feel about all this. Damn us peasants who only pre-ordered and not backed.

I backed, so I can already start. But I bought the game for a friend for his birthday so that we can co-op. Now I can start, but he can't. So no point in me starting either...

I'm not really worried about it but i do feel they are making some awful decisions. Reward backers with unobtainable cosmetic items and what not. Don't give them a couple of weeks headstart. They way they put it makes the pre-order customers sound like cheap 2nd rate players.

How did you get a copy for your friend? Gift voucher? I need to get a copy for my brother but would prefer not going the voucher route.

I bought the mercenary edition for him on the store with his details, and then sent him the un/pw.

I'm mostly concerned about the longevity of the game. The servers cost money and what happens once the sales drop off? F2P and subscription are both failures.

I have a suspicion that they are gonna keep pushing extra content via the store. You want cap ships? 20 dollah. Planetary landing and resources? Another 20 dollahs. That's why they scrapped offline mode. Drm and store integration.

Yep, it's a real shame. I was really super stoked for this game until the offline-announcement. Now I'm just hoping that it sticks around long enough for me to get my value from it. I can't really see myself giving them another cent.

This is unfortunate. I haven't really participated in this thread but I been keeping an eye on it and keen on this title since hearing about it. This is very discerning though and don't it will be getting my tin. I'm like a sad panda now.

Yeah, it's a really sad thing all round. From what I've seen in videos and experienced myself doing the tutorials the game has real potential, but it just has so much unnecessary baggage as well.

I dont mind the paint jobs. I just hope it doesnt turn into pay to win, with "elite" upgrades etc.

The servers have to be paid for somehow... Thanks for the vid.

EDIT: If only the ships were actually that maneuverable...

Hard to see how they will implement a pay system as there is nothing within the UI to give any indication that they are testing the pay concept. Cosmetic items can only be bought through main page. Usually pay to win or pay systems already build the micro-transaction in alpha/beta as its easier to test with small numbers.

agreed not that maneuverable, but somewhat maneuverable when using flight assist off, but alot of work tbh.

Noticed your not playing cause of your friend, would you like to group up with me since:-

The functionality is already there via the web store. Its skins now but they can easily expand upon that. Not the best example but wow used to run only on a web store with no in game interface until a couple of versions ago.

Didn't play wow so wouldn't have known.
Guess we will have to see.

Thanks for the offer, but I actually like to start on equal footing with him. You are welcome to join up with us though if you'd like :) We'll probably play the evening of the 17th as I expect the servers to be down on the 16th.
Cool no problem I can wait the 6 days[emoji2]

Guys, if I can please ask for some critical feedback and/or review/opinion on this. Like I said, I've been keen on this game for a long while, but now I just don't know.

I've been following ED developments for a while now, but wanted to wait until now to pre-order as I was never as excited about it as I am about Star Citizen. Really just something to fill the time while I wait for SC, and to push my new rig a little.

After hearing about the 16 Dec release, I logged onto the ED site this morning all ready to throw my money at Frontier and while the site was loading up I popped in here. Happy that I did now. After reading the recent posts from Wyzak my coin is still secure in my wallet at the moment.

Question I have now for him, and others who have more insight into the game than me, is simply this: If I do go ahead and click that "Buy Now" button, am I going to feel really, really bitter about spending GBP35/R630, or am I going to get R600's worth of entertainment out of it?

Just a quick tip, before buying switch to USD or Euro rather than GBP. It works out cheaper. I paid like R550 for my copy.

What format?
e.g. Graphics, sound , gameplay, online ,etc..
Or do you just wanna know what I enjoyed personally and what I didnt like personally?

I could give one, but it could possibly turn out tl;dr posts.
