Official Elite Dangerous Thread

Thing is, i would actually PREFER paying a sub, not only is it easier on my pocket, but paying for an "annual sub" ahead of anything is a slippery slope into disappointment. With a monthly sub, i can gauge progress on a regular basis and show my unhappiness by stopping the sub, which will keep the devs on their toes. There is also a real concern that i might not even be playing the game after 3 months, so forcing me to pay for content that might only release in 12 months is a bit disingenuous.

I guess this model will work great for the fanboys and hardcore space sim players, but for the more casual players, this will never fly. It actually makes Star Citizen's eternal rounds of community funding (without actually releasing anything into production) look like cake.

Either way, i will stick to vanilla Elite and wait for a price drop. The real problem with something like this is, it splits the community (this is an online game after-all), you will eventually get people who is going to remain in different versions of the game because it is just too much of an initial investment to "upgrade" .

As for Star Wars Battlefront, i'm not comparing a shooter with a space sim here, i'm comparing business models. The concept is identical, be it an online shooter with new maps / new weapons / new game modes vs. a space sim with new ships / new game modes / new planets ... same concept of paying for a "season pass". You might argue it is really DICE vs. Frontier and how they work with the community, then yes, big difference there, but doesn't mean i am suddenly comfortable with paying for season passes because it's not EA.

Yeah, you all have valid points that I did not consider. Not to mention the fact that I'm also on the fence about what is going on. But in all honesty the other drive behind my thinking is the fact that I bought Premium beta. And as such I never have to spend a dime on the game again. So I'm very biased in this case. :)

Decided to download the 64bit client to my pc outside of the Steam version. It's been running all damn night on "Sync files" and this is chugging at 0.21MB/s - has anyone else had this?

So, I know this is in the PC gaming subsection, but screw PC gaming.

I bought this game for Xbox One, and it's something I'm supposed to love, and this game ticks every single box for me. I should love it, but I don't. I am getting more and more frustrated and agitated with the game.

I and starting out things and want to make money, and from what I've read, the best way at the start is to do some mission. After flying to more than 5 different stations I didn't find even a single bloody mission I could do. All of them were marked unobtainable.

I can't do trading as I don't have enough money to effectively do it, and my ship is very squishy so bounty hunting is also out of the question. So how the hell otherwise am I supposed to make money?? So frustrating.

Then, finally, after flying around for over an hour, I finally got one mission I could do, one of those you have to fly around until someone contacts you with the drop off point for the cargo. I flew around for over an hour, got contacted, the game crashed, and when I logged back in, the bloody mission was failed. Urgh!!!

I really want to like Elite but dammit, starting out is such a frustrating thing

Damn, I was hoping that they had reworked the missions. That's exactly how it was when I last played and I was really hoping that it would be better by now. Didn't they "improve" the missions in 1.4 or 1.5?

They don't do a good job at explaining a lot, and there's no hand holding. Maybe I'll pick up an Xbox copy and come help you....

I read than on the Frontier forum as well. Seems that there are some glitches in generating missions on some systems that are not eligible for starters like me.

My final chance I'm giving the game I'll try some mining to just get some money and buying a new ship.

I get the no handholding thing, but the game is supposed to be fun, not frustrating. It's supposed to give then some kind of way to find the info for yourself. But I've played this game for over 10 hours now, and I've made about 2500 credits. Where is the fun in that?

Hmm, that's odd. My starting out was really not that tough. I was flying around in a Type 6 Transporter on my third day.

Try to earn some cash for an Eagle through trading. Do very basic bounty hunting in High Rez zones (only attack ships when they're being attacked by the police) and work your way up to better ships. Rinse and repeat and you'll make loads of dosh. My first day of bounty hunting in my Vulture earned me about 12mil.

Can't be as bad as that. I don't understand why or how you having such a hard time. Any idea if you'll need XBL to play together? (probably).

Yeah probably would need that. Maybe it's my advanced level of stupidity standing in the way of me enjoying the game. At least I can dock and travel like a boss now. I'm gonna give the mining a try and see if I can make some money.

Hahaha that made me laugh.

I also didn't have that hard a time. I started off with trading just to get some money for better parts. It got boring but I made some nice cash, you just have to find 2 or 3 stations close to one another that have commodities that the other station(s) want.

I haven't played the game in quite a bit though, I got bored with just trading, or trying to do a bounty but the bounty was against an Anaconda and I had a Eagle.

hahaha.... that's always fun ^_^

but seriously DieGrootHammer - if you need help, assistance or a buddy to fly with (wingman) let me know and we'll see what we can sort out.

https://eddb.io/ can help you find trading routes based on the system you're in. I'm not sure if it works for the console versions too.

You can make some serious cash using that tool.

Yeah, but kinda makes the game redundant in a sense. I enjoy a more true form of the game and finding things out for myself. To date I have never used external tools for trading or otherwise.

DieGrootHammer - seems like you haven't done much so why not restart (wipe your save)? The starting port you start in with your Sidewinder, that should give you a few missions. Maybe snap in this video while you're playing... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rtajDGnqAo

Another option is to add a fuel scoop and a discovery scanner. Plot a course about 50Ly away, use the scanner on every system on your way over and sell the discoveries at your destination.

It's not the most profitable venture, but if you get lucky you can easily make about 20k or 30k a run.

yeah, the sidewinder is also very versatile and a good all rounder. Rather travel a little further like say ~100ly to make a little more, I think they pay higher if over. I've read stuff on reddit of people flying their Sidewinders to outskirts of the bubble. Like ~64000ly.

Okay, so I got a mission now that FINALLY paid well. FINALLY!!! It's as if the game knew I was sick of it and gave me a lifeline. Got 80k credits for some multihop courier mission. I'll watch that video thanks BeoTeK, and I'll check that website out to see if it works for the console version Graal.

It's dangerous, though. Sometimes you get clumps of dead stars where you can't fuel scoop and then you're screwed. If you're going to travel that far it might be worth checking the Economic Route box so that it takes you short distances at a time. It will take ungodly long, but you should be safe.

Lol.... yes, I think we've all been down there :p

But I have found a solutions, they're called Fuel Rats. If you become stranded, they come out to refuel you via limpets. Very nice indeed.
