Elite Dangerous: Horizons patch 2.0.03 incoming

Greetings Commanders,

We will be taking the servers offline soon to apply update 2.0.03. The downtime for this update should take no more than 30 minutes. As always, we hope to come in under that time. The servers will go offline at 11AM UK, 6AM Eastern US time.

Sit back, relax, read the patch notes, and think about the socks.

Going to start grinding Empire quests now so I can get the Clipper. Either that or I just go straight past and grind money for the Python. From there I think I'll easily be able to participate in faction battles and get into the proper meat and bones of the game.

I would totally recommend the clipper. It's one of my favorite ships and it's very intimidating. But the amount of work it takes to get a rank high enough for it can be an issue. The python is an all rounder. But hell, that clipper is so fast in a straight line for such a large ship. It makes me moist just thinking about it.

yeah it's handed my ass to me a couple of times. that and the Anaconda. I steer clear of them when possible

When I sit in my tiny Vulture, I laugh at Anacondas and clippers. Without shields my ship is super tough to lock onto and hit. Though I have not had the opportunity to try attack a Corvette yet and that is what I am looking forward to most.

You make it sound like that's the only purpose of the game.

For me I'm quite happy to cruise around fighting in my Eagle. Fuck fighting even, just give me a decent jump range ship and I'll be happy just flying and exploring. It's a perfectly valid way of playing. I just love the sights and lighting, and pictures I can take in this game, the game is amazingly beautiful. So picturesque!

Makes me want to now document a trip to the outer rim.

yeah my dinner plate of a Cobra makes quite an easy target to hit.

Had my first run in with a pair of capital ships yesterday. I didn't stick around too long.

dude, sight seeing isn't all as great as you think it might be.

the little bit of exploring I've been doing now it's mostly just a lot of flying around in empty space. you drop into a system, there are maybe three or four planets each about averaged 300,000Ls apart. so you spend about 30-45 minutes flying from one to the other just to go "ooooh so pretty" and then fuckoff to the next system. Rinse. Repeat.

and once you've seen about 15 planets they all start to look the same. and so far I've only seen 4 types of stars.

So I'm going exploring for the money. and to see something nobody else has seen before and plant my proverbial flag on it

I disagree and I love it.

And I'm okay with that. It's not all about the fighting for me, I'm going to see things I wanna check out, explore, land on, drive on, fly by, etc

Another reason I'm so amped for No Man's Sky, and another reason why a lot of people will be disappointed with No Man's Sky.

yeah I'm all for that. that's why I'm waiting for No Man's Sky and not shopping Horizons

This is what the game is about. It offers something for everyone. Where Malice might not see much in planets, Beo is seeing a lot. Different perspectives. A game will never be able to make everyone happy.

yeah and what's the deal with giving everybody Planetary Approach suites? is it just to taunt us????

Can you not dock at planet side stations?

I don't see why that would be an issue, it's the same procedure as normal docking. You still enter a hanger and have bulletin board etc. You just don't have an SRV to deploy.

not as far as I know. will try again tonight.

I can understand not being able to land on a surface, but a station is a stations. It has the same fundamentals and operates just like an orbiting station, just as a base.

When at a station and looking at bulletin board, do you ever have any surface missions?

You cannot land on planetary bases. Only if you have Horizons and are running the version of the game. Normal game it does not work. It's to do with the extra graphics and planetary details.

I once got a mission that eventually required planetary landing
