Official Elite Dangerous Thread

That is strange.

yeah was quite pissed after going through all the effort just to have to abandon the bloody mission

they really need to fix the bulletin board missions. make them more specific and clearer, especially for newcomers

You make it sound like that's the only purpose of the game.

Eh, for me it is a large part of why I play space sims. The thrill of piloting ever bigger ships trumps all else. I want to fly around in the biggest, baddest motherfucking ship in the galaxy. I did the same in X3 Reunion. I built myself a massive trading empire specifically so that I could afford to fly around in capital ships and just fuck shit up.

yeah it's handed my ass to me a couple of times. that and the Anaconda. I steer clear of them when possible

It does seem pretty potent. Whenever I'm RES hunting in my vulture I never take on Clippers unless they're solo.

The only problem is I don't understand the faction system. I want the Clipper, but at some point I also want to fly around in a Federal Corvette.

The federal Corvette is a flying fortress. It has some seriously amazing firepower going for it. Not to mention the fact that it is decently agile for such a huge chunk of metal. And the two huge HPs right behind the cockpit gives it a really frightening look.

That's why I like to remind people that the game has a 10 year development cycle. Now in it's second year. In time it will be what we remembered. But just like with most other games of yesteryear that got a sequel, it becomes really tough for the developer to make every slient / player happy. Because each of us remember something differently and each of us play differently. Not to mention the market is much larger now with many different ages all playing the same games.

Perhaps after a couple of cycles it will be what you remembered.

So basically it's going to be early access for nine years, and I have to pay $60 every year? Or $600 for a proper working product? No thanks, I'll un-sub from that BS.

yeah and nothing over "Competent"

I'm quite happy being factionless. I like the freedom of going where ever I want with out opposing factions trying to blow me up.

My new Elite Life Goal is to own an Anaconda

Fair enough. I'm also factionless, because joining a faction does not give me any benefit that I feel is worth it yet.

yeah don't quite see the point either beside for the couple of ship that require it for purchase, like the Federal Gunship I also wanted.

don't understand power play or it's purpose either yet

You misunderstand. You don't have to join a faction to get the faction related ships. You just have to be their ally, and rank up in their navy. This doesn't mean that you are specifically all buddy with them. As you can be allies with all the factions in the game. I like to think of it more as a: "This commander is abiding the rules and helping out our policing staff, we should reward him with access to better ships" kind of deal.

...like the Federal Gunship I also wanted.

I've flown it. It's one badass looking ship. But holy hell is it slow. Lumbering. And the firepower does not make up for that IMO. Also, landing on a planet with heavy gravity in the gunship is a nightmare. I would rather go for the assault ship.

but how do you get a Federal rank without joining the faction?

yeah I saw it's speed to hardpoint ratio and wasn't too impressed. hence "wanted" :p

ah. I was not aware, good to know. Might just try and get the Corvette then once I get the Anaconda :D

Look for missions with the faction logo on the right of the mission. Those are the ones. Though it's more worth your time to spam the charity missions as they give decent reputation per mission. Though it will cost you.

cool

made it too Bao last night. If I trade in my cobra I can get a Diamondback Explorer with some change for 1 or 2 upgrades

That's not a bad idea, but it's entirely up to you. I mean you will have a large hardpoint then, which is nice. And some decent jumprange.

yup. how does it handle in a combat situation?

Like I told Beo last night, till they patch a way for you to access your ships from any station I'm not interested in having more than one ship

I live by that concept. Never have more than one ship. If I want to fight I just buy another ship and sell the one I am currently using, vice versa. It's a decently nimble ship, amazing at stealth. And if you learn to control it well, you can take on dropships and other large ships without too much worry. Just be careful with the cockpit as it is a bit fragile. But it's got amazing field of view, which matters imo.

the cobra cockpit isn't much better. hull reinforcement helped a little though
