Official Elite Dangerous Thread

Cool. Just wish they will update the launcher to remember which version you selected on last launch. I know it's a small thing but I just wanna click play after the launcher logged in and not select 64bit every time.

I wish they would update the Steam launcher to allow you to select 64bit. Right now I have to launch via the folder and so it doesn't track my stats in Steam.

I don't have that issue. I only play through Steam as i like the time tracking.

You should hang around HiRez areas. If you get lucky you can get in on police shooting at Anacondas, Cutters, Pythons or Federal Dropships. Most of those have bounties around 200k. The other night I killed an Anaconda that had a 350k bounty.

I think on Friday I made 5mil in bounties in an hour and a half. I only stopped because it wasn't increasing my faction rank anymore.

So, speaking of which, I assume you are talking about the Combat Zones. I've not had the guts/balls to venture into those yet, and I feel that my ship is not strong enough to last long in one of those.

My question is, what is the difference in Low Density and High Density Combat zones, and when would be a good time to start thinking about going to these?

Start in a low density, with a Viper mkIII you should be perfectly fine. Remember to pick a faction when dropping into it though (you do this from the right panel).

You will rack up combat bonds from Conflict Zones, which will be redeemed from contacts at the controlling factions station (or is it any station in the system?). This is a good way to earn credits and reputation, but not rank if I remember correctly.

When I launch it through Steam I don't have any options for selecting which version to run. My RAM usage never goes over 3gb when playing through Steam, so I suspect it just defaults to 32-bit.

Nah not combat zones, Resource Extraction Sites. You can find them around most planets that have metal rings. A great system to start in is LTT 15574, because it has several High Rez sites close to a station to turn in bounties. Basically when you enter a Rez site it spawns a bunch of miners, pirates and authority ships (but no police in HazRez). It then continues spawning new ones. If you're in HiRez you can just hang around and wait for the police to start shooting at pirates and then join in.

Combat zones are fun and not very difficult, but the payout is usually much less per ship than bounty hunting.

Ahhh, was wondering what the hell that Combat Bonds were all about. I thought it had something to do with CQC mode of the game. I'll try a low intensity zone and see what's what.

Oh, okay I got that wrong then. So resource zones are good for bounty hunting as well. That's good to hear because I'm getting a bit bored with the Nav Beacon hunting, and the ships spawning there is really easy to beat. So I assume that high rex sites spawns higher ranked and bigger ships than low rez zones then....

Really? I've been lucky then as my bounty runs have averaged at around about 160k per run. Most I've got was a 220k bounty run.
No I made an average of 500k per run when I still had to return to base for reloads. that 116k was for 1 kill :)

Yeah, but Malice is a sissy and hunts in Nav Beacons...
so where should I hunt for bounties?

I stuck my toe in a low conflict and it got ripped off. need more shield/hull upgrades before I try conflict zones again. might go policing some resource sites tonight

Like BeoTek, my steam launcher has the 64bit option. Try validating(or is verifying) the files and see if steam starts using the new launcher.

Okay one thing i really don't like about multi-cannons are the ammo. Barely made it out of a fight with 7 rounds left in one cannon and the rest empty. Might switch to an all beam weapon config. It would save time and money on reload trips especially if you are in a system with just industrial stations.

I did the same. even more annoying is weapon reloads when you're in the middle of a dogfight. And the Beam Lasers have higher damage and DPS in any case

canons in space don't make any sense anyway. totally unrealistic :p

Lies! our ancestors used ballistics in space against the Cylons and it worked out well.

Well I know where we can find Aliens for sure..... the Horsehead Nebula!
