Official Elite Dangerous Thread

Was starting to look at this while waiting on SC but R630 does not make me ready to bite just yet :/
I'm a cheapskate :D

exactly! and I don't even like the pimp gold paint :p

In other news, they have completely removed "Elite Dangerous Horizons" from the steam store, and this has now been replaced with the season pass.

ED:H had a steam score of 73% out of +- 1000 reviews.
E:D had/has a steam score of 65% - http://store.steampowered.com/app/359320

ED:H SP now has a steam score of 65% (independent of E:D's 65%) from 84 reviews. If that was an attempt to improve the scores it wasn't very successful - http://store.steampowered.com/app/441340

ED:H SP is no longer marked as early access.

On steam charts you can also no longer track ED:H separately to E:D, they have now been merged into one - http://steamcharts.com/search/?q=elite+dangerous

Yeah, Steam reviews have become a place to make fun of and clickbaits, really not a good representative of the product and a poor platform to boot.

Strange, I never had that. But mind you, I still had it installed where you had to reinstall Steam. But I uninstalled it and redownloaded the base game, Elite: Dangerous. It now asks which you want to run when launching and launches the appropriate Elite launcher.

my steam runs on a separate hdd, so technically steam was still there. just had to run the setup again as a formality. but after that I only had ED in my library and it now runs 1 universal launched where I can choose which game to run. same as with the old ED launcher where you could choose whether to run 32 or 64bit....

Ok, but I'm referring to the Steam launcher asks which version you want to start, Elite: Dangerous or Elite: Dangerous Horizons. To which I usually choose the latter. Never thought about launching the base game launcher, but again, that will then give you separate options as the picture depicts.

On the other hand I find it quite valuable.

Look at what happened with Payday 2 when they announced microtransactions after promising that the game would never have microtransactions.

E:D's steam scores also crashed to 65% from 78% after they announced ED:H and the pricing module. I suspect that this is probably the first time that many people found out that E:D is actually only the first year's contents and Frontier want them to pay the price of a AAA game every year.

I don't have the base game any more. that's the Horizons launcher

Man this game is fscking difficult and confusing and it doesn't tell you anything its just like get out there and figure out thank goodness Mali came to help me otherwise i would still be on that first planet

I'm on just about every night, myself and bologniusmaximus. Including till 2am Saturday, and midnight last. :p

We are on TS quite a lot. Even during the day. I get lots of love from Beo and his stinky loud dog. Not to mention every time Malice is online he complains about his eagle or how his sex life is so generic lately. Come join in the discussion, let your ears bleed.

After eventually getting it to redeem my ED:H code (a mission in its own right!) the launcher through Steam thing confused the heck outta of me too. I took the Play Elite Dangerous: Horizons option and it worked fine.

Hadn't played for ages so spent some time on the weekend trying to remember basics. Like how to use the landing gear, and how to use the scanner :) Real basics. I found a planetary landing site, but couldn't figure out how to target it to get to it so just spent 20 minutes flying around the planet.

Didn't bother landing (hadn't remembered the landing gear command at that point :)) and assumed even if I did I wouldn't be able to do anything without some sort of rover? Are there specific ships that surface vehicles can be loaded into? Or can you put them onto any ship? Also, I assume the vehicle takes up an internal equipment slot or two? What component/s are the safest to ditch in its' place

Do planetary landing areas work the same as orbiting stations? As in cruise to them, ask for landing permission and park it in the right spot?

I'm not entirely sure where I am in the universe right now, but even after months of not playing, my ship (Cobra MKIII I think it's called) was in the station where I left it, with a cargo of 5 Indi Whiskey still in its hold. I'd also been hit with a 17K fine for having illegal cargo, so I assume the station changed faction hands since I arrived there. Irritatingly, I paid the fine, then left the station intending to jump somewhere else, struggled for a few minutes to figure out the Frame Shift key, and landed up getting scanned and fined again. Screw the pigs - I'm never going back there again anyway.

All in all, a fair bit of fun, hampered only by my inability to press the right buttons at the right time. Going to go an offload the whiskey somewhere profitable and then see if I can figure out to to get around on a planet surface. Any suggested locations/destinations that would be worth a early visit?
