After eventually getting it to redeem my ED:H code (a mission in its own right!) the launcher through Steam thing confused the heck outta of me too. I took the Play Elite Dangerous: Horizons option and it worked fine.
Hadn't played for ages so spent some time on the weekend trying to remember basics. Like how to use the landing gear, and how to use the scannerReal basics. I found a planetary landing site, but couldn't figure out how to target it to get to it so just spent 20 minutes flying around the planet.
Didn't bother landing (hadn't remembered the landing gear command at that point) and assumed even if I did I wouldn't be able to do anything without some sort of rover? Are there specific ships that surface vehicles can be loaded into? Or can you put them onto any ship? Also, I assume the vehicle takes up an internal equipment slot or two? What component/s are the safest to ditch in its' place
Do planetary landing areas work the same as orbiting stations? As in cruise to them, ask for landing permission and park it in the right spot?
I'm not entirely sure where I am in the universe right now, but even after months of not playing, my ship (Cobra MKIII I think it's called) was in the station where I left it, with a cargo of 5 Indi Whiskey still in its hold. I'd also been hit with a 17K fine for having illegal cargo, so I assume the station changed faction hands since I arrived there. Irritatingly, I paid the fine, then left the station intending to jump somewhere else, struggled for a few minutes to figure out the Frame Shift key, and landed up getting scanned and fined again. Screw the pigs - I'm never going back there again anyway.
All in all, a fair bit of fun, hampered only by my inability to press the right buttons at the right time. Going to go an offload the whiskey somewhere profitable and then see if I can figure out to to get around on a planet surface. Any suggested locations/destinations that would be worth a early visit?
- Planetary Rovers are called SRVs
- You need a planetary approach module to be able to land or fly close to planet surfaces, if you buy a new ship the ship comes with this module.
- You need a Planetary surface Hangar or whatever it's called to store SRVs on ships, there are different sizes but you get a size for every ship out there.
- After buying the Planetary Surface hangar thing I mentioned above you need to also buy the individual SRV for the hangar.
- Safest to ditch in it's place would the scanners and fuel scoops or cargo racks. But in the end it's up to personal preference.
- Planetary Bases and cities work the same as Space ports with landing yes. You need to request permission to dock.
