ELITE DANGEROUS: ARENA OUT NOW

TzbXJkh.png

Today we are very excited to announce the launch of a new stand-alone product, Elite Dangerous: Arena. Arena is the PVP mode already in Elite Dangerous so all players who own Elite Dangerous or Elite Dangerous: Horizons will already have access to it. Simply select Arena (previously labelled CQC) from the in-game main menu to play.

However, we believe Elite Dangerous: Arena is a compelling game in its own right and want to offer it to players whose main goal is to play fast paced PVP space combat action. This will open Elite Dangerous to a whole new group of players, all of whom you can play against in the Close Quarter Combat Championships (CQC) in Arena mode in Elite Dangerous and Elite Dangerous: Horizons. So if you haven’t played CQC already we have a number of challenges starting today that you can join in with.

Elite Dangerous: Arena is available to new players right now on our store and on steam for £4.99/$7.49.

Mayhem Launch Celebrations
To celebrate today’s launch we decided to run a series of events for everybody who can play CQC to get involved in.

- CQC Mayhem – Visit our blog post on the Elite Dangerous community site to see our huge schedule of Mayhem events, and to find out how you can get involved.

- Official Launch Livestream – Three hours of CQC with the developers starting at 6PM GMT on our official YouTube Channel. Come and test your skills against six different members of the development team, and be in the chance of winning prizes for taking part.

- The Gladiators Challenge – During the first four weeks after the launch of Arena (16 February – 15 March), three named accounts beginning with ‘FDEV’ will be playing CQC on an ad hoc, but regular, basis. If you manage to get in a game with them, and take a screenshot, you will be entered into a prize draw to win one of two premium Elite Dangerous goodie bags, including a cap, a beanie, three faction mugs, signed artwork, and more. Every paint job in the Elite Dangerous store is also up for grabs, and a couple of Elite Dangerous: Horizons Season passes. There will be a total of five prizes given out – the draw will be done on March 16.

To be in the chance to win, all you have to do is get into a CQC match with either FDEV Rhino, FDEV Wolf or FDEV Jet, take a screenshot of you playing against them (perhaps the leaderboard at the ened of the game), and email it to [email protected] with the subject line ‘CQC Gladiators’. Your email address will be added to the list of entries, and winners will be drawn at random at the end of the four weeks.

I am happy they have done this. A couple of people in the community have also asked for this. It's honestly a good thing.

R105 on Steam will save you a couple of Rand. Sounds like a excellent addition to the game for those who want to just jump in and get a bit of pew-pew-pew in every now and then, especially if you haven't gone to the full Horizons cost.

BeoTeK, is there any link between CQC/Arena play and the main game at all? (other than gaining flight and combat experience I mean). Like can you earn credits, weapons, ship components, etc. in Arena that can then be used in the main game?

No link. Everything you earn can only be used in CQC / Arena. The only thing that goes over into main game is your CQC rank which is shown in the status screen in cockpit.

Thanks axon, that's exactly what I wanted to know.

Pleasure!

Changelog below:

Greetings commanders! We have an update on the way this morning. We expect for the downtime to last for up to an hour starting at 10AM GMT+0.

Below are the changes! Enjoy!

- OSX: Fix OSX users not being able to save bindings
- Stop excessive wheel damage causing an insta-kill on the SRV

- If a POI spawner gets replicated to us and we are on a platform that does not support it, then put it into an invalid state which will cause it to do nothing
- Fix for data link scanner not scanning when the option 'Firing deploys hardpoints' is disabled
- i Sola Prospect in the Brestla star system now always stocks all ships and modules
- Never display the online/offline status of members of large private groups

- Adjusted how teams are set up in CQC games so make them more balanced
- If someone joins a CQC match when the current game has less than 1 minute left, then have them wait on the lobby screen for the next match instead of joining a game about to end

- Lowered the min damage threshold for getting an assist on a player in CQC
- Remove the first blood bonus from capture the flag mode

- Fix for an error in Ship Landing Sensors

One of my first issues when I started the game.

There's this strange issue I get when playing. I'll be driving around in my SRV and recall my ship. Ship will fly down to land and then sort of just hover above ground. I'll be able to get back into the ship but won't be able to launch as the AI never actually landed.
It's only happened twice. And only after I've recalled the ship more than 5 times. So it's a rare bug of sorts it seems.

Man I'm so far behind :(

hoping to catch up a bit tonight now that I have redownloaded the entire fucking game

I've been using hte stand alone old Horizons launcher since they changed it. Tonight I'll try my luck again with the original launcher. But if it still doesn't work then I'll just stick to the old Horizons one.

with frontier deciding to make Horizons a Season Pass DLC (like it should have fucking been from the start!) steam just completely disregarded my Horizons standalone and forced me to download the game again

Strange. You have all the luck! Why not just download the standalone launcher then and never worry again?

no it's fixed now. or at least until frontier decides to change their minds again.

I'm very happy with it being on steam, that way it stays updated

I have the issue that closed beta versions of the game are only available on the standalone and not through steam... :|

Ain't nobody got time for that!

I'll wait till they are implemented in to the game. like god intended. then they are all shiny and new.

You'd be surprised how many bugs and exploits are found in the closed beta and reported by players who have access to it. You'd be even more surprised to find out how few of them actually get fixed or get any attention...
