Official Elite Dangerous Thread

Elite Dangerous is currently on special at XBox Live for gold members. Elite Dangerous: Commander Deluxe Edition which includes Horizons is R359,40 which is a lot cheaper than on Steam. What's the game like on the XBox? Is it worth getting? Or would you recommend that I rather wait for the Steam version to go on special?
I think they've done a great job of making the most with the controller. The Xbox version really isnt bad, get a few frame drops here and there but PC version can also be demanding. If you're going to get Elite, I would highly recommend including Horizons as it really adds a lot more depth and content with things like planetary landing, and all the more updates still coming in Season 2.

Obviously preferred play style is PC with a HOTAS, but there is also something about beholding some of those magnificent sights on a big screen while couch bound. I'm not going to hate on either platform as I really love this game despite all is controversy, so my opinion may be somewhat jaded.

Thanks! I'm going to get it. Not sure when I'm going to play it!

So here is my thoughts on the game on Xbox One:

Since the last few updates the performance has increased rather significantly. The game is running much better than is did in a while. It still loads a rather long time, and loading into things like the galaxy map takes a while to load up. But the game isn't high paced so you get into this chilled vibe.

The controller works well, though is really difficult to learn all the control and to get the hang of it. There also comes some times that it just feels like the controller doesn't have enough buttons for the game.

Graphically the game is gorgeous. It looks stunning and you should be able to gauze at the multitude of great views.

I would definitely say get Horizons, as the base game just doesn't have enough content to keep coming back for it once you've seen a few planets. It's much better to have to possibility to land on these planets.

I really wish you could start a second character in this. I'm completely and utterly lost after 6 months of not playing and I'm so scared of losing my Clipper while I relearn the game. XD

This is why I'm buying another account.

Awesome! Got it, including Horizons. It's funny that it's so much cheaper on the XBox compared to the PC.

Picked this up during current Xbone Sale. Went for vanilla version as I was not sure if I would click with it. Wish I had gone for the deluxe version as I am LOVING IT!

this game is so deep, even Adele could roll in it. Love the role play aspect that kicks in. At the moment I'm trying to be a savvy merchant trader, scouting markets to buy low and sell high. But once I have some funds to kit out my ship, gonna go bounty hunting [emoji16]

I put in an hour or two late last night. After I got a feel for the controls again, all the fun came back to me. Glad I re-installed. BeoTeK: I see elitetradingtool.co.uk is a bit out of date on price data. What is the current go to trade route planner to use?

Try using https://eddb.io/

I think I'll just go buy a trading ship and ease myself back into the game that way. I'm amazed at how confused I am. Short term memory ftl. :o

And true to form, I accidentally turned off rotational correction and ended up getting my ship blown up while trying to land because I couldn't find the button again fast enough.

haha.. we've all been there :p
surely you have sufficient creds to cover insurance?

And then there's this...

Yeah, luckily I'm sitting on about 60 million creds. No idea where that comes from.

fokmy... I've never had more than ~15mil of which I used to by my Asp Ex and kit it out properly. I've never actually owned anything bigger than the Asp come to think of it. Still want to try the Anaconda.

Yeah, I really don't know where I got that much money. I did a lot of bounty hunting in my Vulture, but I don't think it was that much.

Unfortunately replacing the Clipper took about 6mil. :(

BeoTeK I'm taking your route and doing exploration now. I see one of the CG is exploration data so getting in on that. What ship are you exploring in?

Cool. I couldn't decide between that and the Diamondback Exp. I think I'll go with the cheaper one in this case, which seems to be the Asp. I don't really need the extra jump range.
