A nice little guide or general assistance with anyone wanting to get into exploring, take a gander:
Get the Asp Scout then if you are on a budget or if that's a bit much, the diamondback explorer.
The next thing is to outfit with a srv hanger, advanced discovery scanner, detailed surface scanner, and shields. (*edit, oh and fuel scoop is mandatory...can't believe I forgot) A auto repair module will also help if you have the room.
The next thing is to have goals. Okay, visiting a nebula is one thing but it often makes the journey in between not so great. When people complain about boredom, this is often why. They have only one goal, visit said nebula or make money, or get elite rank. Basically, they do one thing and it's boring.
So what you do is create multiple goals stuff like:
- Create a montage
- Visit the Veil West Nebula
- Find a planet really close to a star
- Find multiple stars really close to one another
- Find a black hole.
As you explore, you'll think of more things you want to see. A moon orbiting an earth-like. Two landable planets really close to one another, a planetary nebula. Then try taking video and screenshots. Some of the things I looked for when making this montage:
- Black hole near a planet
- System with five or more stars in extremely close orbit
And I wouldn't have come back home till I'd found them. Always making mini goals is what helps me keep going.
But don't settle for basic either when you do find what you want either.
Look how I do my shots in my video, I always try my best to make it stand out.
Look up the rule of 3rds for photography. Learn when to have your ship in the shot and when to exclude it. Look for your own opprotunites. Sure that system is boring when you think about it but HOW can you make it interesting.
Can you make an eclipse? is that moon really close to a ringed gas giant, can you land on it? What about sending your ship away while you are watching in your SRV?
If you do that, exploration is not a matter of honking and jumping. It's simply a challenge to showcase the best the galaxy has to offer in the best light possible.
Be creative, be patient, and always be on the look out for interesting finds. Using realistic mode for instance, select a star and you can see it "expands". If the system has lots of stars but they are close together, it'll show one bright light. You may have a chance to find a system with lots of stars close together. Stuff like that.
Lastly, one last tip for finding the crazy stuff. System names. Next time you play the game type in this in the galaxy map:
IWAINCH AA-A H24
Now go to that system using the search function.
Now remove the specific system name and you have this:
IWAINCH
For some reason, the really crazy systems tend to be the AA-A systems. If you keep searching "IWAINCH"
It'll go in order like this:
IWAINCH AA-A H1
IWAINCH AA-A H2
