Much better quality upload of the planetary demo. It looks incredible
Agreed! So much lost in the live streamed version. The detail and fidelity at this higher res is bloody fantastic! So many little details missed on the live stream. Like the little Dragonfly rider who abandons his bike and hightails it on foot away from the sandworm:

Also, really liking the inner thought changes - seems like a different font, and the action options appear with a lot less waviness than what was in the first version they showed. Either way, it's a heap better than <USE>!

Funny, I didn't see that! :D

Yeah, Inner Thought looks tons better now. It was very "floaty console / TV interface" at first, if that makes sense, but this latest iteration is definitely something I could live with.

Just finished watching the full presentation and all I can say is Wow, ...

I'm also really impressed by the tech demo of the tools they use. It's so good that it allows for rapid iteration. Can someone please tag me when the Frankfurt video they mention goes up covering the tools in more detail? :)

Which vid would that be?

Speaking of 3.0, am I the only one that thinks 3.0 won't happen in 2016 anymore?

Massive raging on the forums about dates, as usual. At this point I think it's unlikely we'll see it this year, given that it's November and 2.6 isn't out yet either. Chris did say they would try to get it out year, with the usual disclaimers about giving target dates.

Maybe they'll surprise us, I don't know. 2.6 includes some major new stuff anyway, so if they get that out by end of year I'll probably be happy.

Yeah they always complain cause they are like children,if they get and the handle bars are not red they will cry. I always say with cig, don't bow to pressure, release it when it's good.

To release it unpolished to the public will just make the company become that example Company everyone talks about for kickstarter. I personally don't mind them being that company that never gave dates, but rather delivered the product, does not matter if it's 5 or 6 years later. They are not fffing around, anyone can watch their around the verse and the stuff before that and literally see improvements on every episode.

I agree, release it when it's ready, not before.

What the complaining is actually about for the most part is the lack of communication wrt what the status is of 2.6 in particular, what is holding it up and so forth.

Yeah trust me I'm not one to complain. Just noticed we are in November and 2.6 isn't even in PTU yet.
They are working on 2.6, 3.0 and SQ42 dou so understandable. I just got used to the monthly updates that I was expecting 2.6 much earlier lol.

If it's anything to go by,I get this feeling in my gut that what we are seeing in around the verse etc... Is a month or two old. But thats just a guess and a feeling I got. To be honest I am very happy with waiting, just means the pc upgrade will be awsum, have been saving and will only upgrade when sc is released.

Turns out the monthly release idea was impractical, and as per CitizenCon they are moving away from it. Still, if 2.6 comes out before 2016 is done, that will be five major patches this year.

I have been on the PTU invite list since 2.4, so will let you know as soon as I get a 2.6 invite.

Some excellent bits of info in there on the new item system, room system, a quick peek at the Buccaneer, the character pipeline, and also a brief progress report on 2.6 at the end. Overall a cool episode.

Couple of video inserts from the 4th Anniversary Livestream last night.

A preview of FPS gameplay featured in the upcoming Star Marine, coming soon in Star Citizen Alpha 2.6:

A set of cinematics showcasing the Big Guns of the UEE Fleet - the SC capital ships:
(There's also a companion Behind The Scenes video that's worth watching too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rp43tiIpi4Y)

Also unveiled yesterday was the Esperia Prowler - a human replica of an alien ship originally used by the Tevarin. We also got to see the first concept art visuals of what the Tevarin look like:

In lore: The Tevarin were the third extraterrestrial race to be discovered by the UEE. They were defeated by the UEE at the Battle of Centauri on August 2, 2610 SET.

One more video to worth watching, and also a pretty unprecedented (imho) move on the project development and communication front:

A BTS on the ships that will be flight-ready in Alpha 2.6, including the Caterpillar hauling ship, the Herald info-runner and a luxury snub ship, the 85X (which is frikken gorgeous!):

Also, not specifically discussed in the livestream, but released at the same time was a new Letter from the Chairman in which Chris Roberts talks about the dilemmas of having an open-development approach, and the unrealistic expectations on delivery that some people have in terms of timelines on the SC project:

... we have been reticent to share our internal timelines, even with caveats, as it always seems to cause trouble; one section of the community gets annoyed because things are perceived as late while another gets annoyed wondering why we shared dates at all if they aren’t solid. Of course even when we don’t give dates we have yet another part of the community getting annoyed because they feel left in the dark and have no idea when the next build will drop.

Basically it is a Kobayashi Maru. < brilliant reference!

The upshot of all of this though is that CIG have decided to start publicly publishing their internal development timelines, direct from their JIRA and MS Project software, updated on a weekly basis. You can check the progress, or lack thereof, on the new Production Schedule Report page on the website.

"It's a bold move Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for them."
