Old games to play again

I was sorting out my cds and put aside all the games I might try again.

Freelancer - looks like the modding community has made sure that this game will never really get old.

Darwinia - never gave it a fair change... probably because I never understood it

Commandos - bought the collection the other day at musica. I had the original game 10 or so years ago...which my brother threw against the wall in a fit of rage, resulting in a rain of sparkles.

The space quest collection... hmm, will probably just install it, look at he ugly graphics and uninstall it. Sierra games didn`t age as well as lucasarts games.

speaking of lucasarts, Grim Fangdango.... even with outdated graphics, its still looks better than most new games, thanks to some very creative people who designed it.

With that fail mindset you might as well pass on all oldies.

Don`t get me wrong, I loved the old quest games, I bought the space quest and kings quest collections, i`ve got the old kings quest compendium (a book explaining everything about king`s quest), kings quest is almost like a religion to me... I learnt English from kings quest 4

I feel like there are 0 games today with the personality and immersion that those quest games had..
I would read pages of dialogue even with my inability as a 4 year old Afrikaans kid to understand the language fully, and not be bored... and take months to finish one quest game, my primary education is more to be credited to sierra games than primary school. You might even think i have an unhealthy obsession.

But you can`t argue, when loading it up today it`s underwhelming..

maybe I have a special place in my memory for the quest games, and don`t want to spoil it with reality

I've recently purchased a few of my favourites from GOG and installed them namely:

Syndicate.
Star Control! <=Classic.

Myst
Riven (back in the day a game that was > 1GB was Impossibruuuu to install on a HDD .. they were all < 500MB or so).

and a few more.

I think it's just honesty.

I have incredible fond memories of games like Red Alert and Syndicate and can talk and talk about them but I couldn't play them now. That's not condemnation though that's just realism. However, if you gave me those same games just with a bit of spit shine I'd probably play them.

OMG, syndicate, how could i forget that :(

I do not really know if this counts, but Morrowind oO. One can get so much time out of that.
Also, BG1 and BG2. Still so good till this day.

I enjoy my old games for what they are even if they are drawn in just two colors. That's how I've played them back in the day, 'we' literally had to game in monochrome...

I really enjoyed replaying space quest 1-4. Those were great :D

Same. I still love playing those old rpgs. Even though its a pain to get the res that you want :p

I managed to get SCUMMVM running on my Galaxy Tab and replayed Day of the Tentacle! WHAT an awesome little game it was. Now just need to find Full Throttle as well!

I bought Nox a while back from a 2nd hand shop. Who on earth sells that game. Think it was about 3 months ago. Awesome game that aged pretty well I must say.
