Old Valve Classics

Hey all.

New to these forums, so, whatup? :)

Quick one. Are there still any old CS or CS:S games still running? Local of course. Getting bit over CoD4 atm.

Was thinking of buying on steam, but if nobody playing, might as well load my old version and go against bots :P

There are still plenty CSS servers running.

Check out WAGE, Mweb, iGame, SGS for some of the local game hosts, pretty sure one of them host some servers. Why one would trade COD4 for counter strike though is beyond me... :D

And welcome to the forums btw.

CSS has been played competitively in SA ever since it came out, but for this season the league switched to 1.6 if I'm not mistaken. There is still some uncertainty regarding whether or not it will stay on 1.6 or if they will revert back to CSS after this season. If it doesn't I'm pretty sure another league will crop up, if you are into that sort of thing.

Unfortunately this also means that CSS servers are a bit more deserted now than usual. Of course, I still play everyday and there are still 3/4 servers filled each night (round 60-70 players). Not as much as about 2 years ago, but still great fun. There are also regular pickups if you're interested in that. All in all, the most active servers are IS and WAGE. No one plays SGS anymore because the lack of moderation. IS hosts 4 Dust2 servers, 2 Sniperless and 2 normal, and also one Dashur Pro server. WAGE hosts more casual servers, like Gun Game, Surf, BHop, Jailbreak, etc. The unfortunate thing is there are no more public servers with map cycles. This basically means you shouldn't expect to play the old classics (Italy, Nuke, Office, Assault etc) very often.

CSS is still definitely worth a buy through steam (+- R150). Add me on Steam if you have any more queries. ACC: Lo0nitic

Thanks for the replies guys. Will def be getting CSS then in next day or two. Nice to go back to some of the old classics! Stoked to hear it still going strong.

Staple2, what do you mean by pickups? Its been awhile, lol

Basically there are like 4 servers which have a plugin that allows for automated clannies. Pickups are thus games that consist of 2 teams of 5 players playing a map according to a clanny format/atmosphere. So it's just a bit more competitive than the general public servers.

Ah OK, so it pretty much what promod is to CoD4?

CSS is more of a social game and there are mixes(pickups, but basically you just have to join the server). The PUB servers for CSS servers are full basically every night. CS1.6 is still very much alive(with regards to the competitive scene, there are constantly clannies and pickups) but is almost dead with public servers. I would suggest you get CSS unless you want to play competitively. Overseas though, its a different story. CS1.6 is still the most played game daily, on top of black ops and MW2 combined :D

hehe... I was playing earlier today on d2 but only for the first couple of rounds :P... I'll be sure to repay the favour :)

Just filter Location to Africa and all the servers will pop up. The most popular ones will have the most players :P

There's a massive ammount of mods and maps, unique weapons and skins, new graphics files available for css. It's a great game to play when you have some friends that are good with team work.
