According to CNET, the Xbox One won't play 3D Blu-rays at launch, though Microsoft did not rule out adding the feature at a later date.
The Xbox One is Microsoft's first game console to have a built-in Blu-ray player. But if you're among the small portion of the population who's interested in playing back 3D Blu-rays on their game consoles, you won't be able to do it on the Xbox One -- at least initially.

A Microsoft rep told CNET that the Xbox One doesn't support playback of 3D Blu-rays, though the company hadn't ruled out adding the feature in the future.

Microsoft has been giving press previews of the upcoming game console, which hits stores on November 22, and some additional details about the Xbox One have been trickling out. (Read our full preview of the Xbox One as a living-room device).

Sony currently supports playback of both 3D games and 3D Blu-ray movies on the PS3. However, the 3D picture is a little less clear for the PS4.

According to Sony's official online FAQ, the PS4 will support playback of 3D games, though none are available at launch. But the FAQ doesn't mention anything about the PS4 supporting playback of 3D movies. (With its November 15 release date quickly approaching, we'll know soon enough whether it does).

It remains to be seen how much people care about 3D Blu-ray playback, but Microsoft doesn't appear to think it's an important enough feature to have available at launch. We'll see if that changes in the future.

The hits just keep coming for the xbone...at this rate they'll sell 8 of them...

That being said - as I understand it this should be mostly a software issue which they can fix. The actual screen seems to be the main 3d bottleneck so if the hardware is right on that front then it should be ok...eventually.

>However, the 3D picture is a little less clear for the PS4.

Bit puzzled by this...why on earth would that be the case.

3D was, is and will always be a gimmick in my eyes, have yet to see a film at the cinema that has TRUE 3D effects in it, everything seems like it's just depth perception.

The pure CGI films should have unless someone screwed up spectacularly. The render farms are already rendering it with depth info so I'd imagine they can translate that directly to 3d without hassle.

I must admit I haven't seen on either...mainly because I've been to like one or two 3d shows....neither was CGI'd.

OMG!! No 3D support!?!? I couldn't care less...

Honestly, whom of you actually game in 3D? I've done it once, and I didn't enjoy the experience at all. If both the PS4 and Xbone doesn't support 3D gaming or movies, I would say good riddance. 3D is and was only a gimmick.

The console will have 3D support by the time it reaches us next year.

I won't be surprised if we only receive the console in the second half of next year.

Not that I was planning on buying the Xone anyway.. But who uses the 3D functions anyway.. If it was 3D without the use of glasses then that might be cool.. But having to wear those 3D glasses is just plain annoying

I don't think this is a big deal, especially considering the low price of standalone blu-ray players and the fact that 3D is meh.
