Online gaming vs. single player gaming- which do you prefer?

I for one prefer single player games. I like to go at my own pace. I do how ever enjoy fps games online. But rts games I hate online.

Quite simply, both. I'm someone who loves stories. Be they books, movies or games, so the SP of most games really appeals to me.

But I also love online playing, as I can do so whilst chatting to my mates using Teamspeak. Quite often I don't bother playing online if none of my mates are online. Also, online play is nice in that you can measure and test yourself against another human being and not some AI script.

I also like both but online is more of my thing even though i normally get my ass handed to me. I like the interactive part of it. I can be at my house and not have to lug my computer around with me to a lan. I still enjoy going to lans because its easier to talk strat when you are together but it is nice when you know you dont have to.

i started gaming online when battlefield 2 was released locally. ironically this was also when we were still subject to the rather piddly 3gb caps...

i still prefer my single player games though. nothing beats progressing through a good story

Likewise, I only started playing COD4 online last year sometime. I got hooked really badly. Not I think I spent minimum 5 hours a week playing. Still love great single player games though. Mass Effect 2 was definately a winner for me! I have to agree with Tinman though, I get bored playing games the second time round. I mean its still great but its not the same.

Both. SP for Story, Co-Op or MP for added value. I do get bored of Online games very quickly though.

Single player. Multiplayer cannot offer the story that single player and I play my games mostly for the story. Do enjoy pes multiplayer thought.

haven't touched Black Ops Single Player... But then again somewhat of a casual gamer, or the group below that
Only SP I'll touch is Assassins Creed, at least i know beforehand it will be great

I enjoy both, but if you put a gun to my head to make a choice it would be single player. Nothing beats getting lost in a RPG just exploring the world at your own pace.

This is very interesting. I really thought that the majority of our users would express a preference for online gaming.

So, to the SP fans, what was the last single player game that you really enjoyed? Maybe I just need the right game to reignite my passion for story driven gaming. My recent favourites were Mass Effect 2 and Uncharted 2. I have Demon's Souls gathering dust, I hear it offers an amazing single player experience.

decent SP and can't say nay to some lekker MP :).

Demon's Souls does offer an amazing single player experience but that experience increases drastically if you play it online. Other good single player games I have enjoyed recently were Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Fallout: New Vegas and of course Assassin's Creed Brotherhood (it also has pretty decent MP).

I probably enjoy both about the same, although when it comes to multiplayer, I very rarely play on public servers / matchmaking. I much prefer playing private games with friends.

I love my single player, I love a great story driven experience, I love it even more if it's a nice long 30+ hour game. Online gameplay is about the competition, testing my wits and reactions against others, and I don't even need to buy a new game every month to get the fix. Ony 3 games so far are worth the hassles for me, Company of heroes, and Call of Duty 4 and 5, I wanna add one or two more to that list but I cant seem to find any local communities behind any of the games I like.

And with, trolls and hackers, just send an e-mail, and you never have to hear from them again.

Hmm I spend more hours on Online gaming but only because I have lots of friends and we want to play coop most of the times.

But yeah Enjoy my SP just as much as I enjoy my MP.

Mass Effect 2
Its downfall is the stupid planet mining thing!!!
