Feb Indigala Bundle (Good place to pick up Interstellar Marines for $1)

I know its a bundle but looking at the current titles in it the only good thing out of it is the early access game Interstellar Marines. Gameplay reminds me of old fast paced shooters ala CS mixed with UT

Looking at the Steam player charts it has potential as a MP game.

Warning if you wanna pick up BTA rather wait till peak hour and split cost with a friend. Peak hour will be sometime this month when they will have a "buy one get one/two free" promotion

But the real question is, does it have any potential here on the tip of Africa with our limited MP scene?

I've played risen 2- which I hear is somehow connected to this team- how does it compare?

Risen is very similar to Gothic in gameplay, in fact many people see it as the true Gothic 4 instead of Arcania. Risen 2 is just a bit more up to date ala FX and gameplay. I did read somewhere that now that Piranha Bytes own the Gothic IP again they plan to tie them in together.

In short if you hated Risen do not even think about playing the Gothic saga, if you loved it you will like the Gothic series.

I really enjoyed risen 2. Story was great, interesting characters and even the combat was fun, although it was quite difficult. Maybe I should give the gothic series a try

Thats why I love the series. It's still old school RPG's. No follow the arrow to complete your current quest, and none of this auto health regen crap. Also no way of knowing if you bit off more than you can chew numbers hovering above creatures.

Edit: If you do get it remember the following patches for Gothic 3. You will thank me later
1st Comunity patch 1.75 from http://www.madvulture.de/wp/archives/category/gothic-3 (Fix buggy AI/quests)
2nd Replace GE3.ini with https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B_w4zHK-Jy6rbENCRVR1WmJiMWM (Fix distance view)
3rd quest patch 4.2 from http://www.worldofgothic.de/dl/download_433.htm (Fix quests and some FX enchancements)
4th Content Mod 2.2 from http://www.worldofgothic.com/dl/?go=dlfile&fileid=177 (Adds more armor and items aligned to gothic universe)
5th If you running on 64 bit OS patch the exe with http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php to give you a smoother game.

Click here to see how above mentioned patches would change the look of Gothic 3 when done.

That's a useful list- thanks for sharing.

so who is making all these patches? is it just guys in the community? I wonder why the devs don't include them?

K Long story short:

Piranha–Bytes developed Gothic 1-3 but with 3, JoWooD owned the IP and pushed Piranha for an early release. The game was/is a bugfest so full of holes that it was not worth the name.

JoWood, still own the IP and could not care about fixing Gothic 3. (IP soon to default back to original developers) Jowood went on and created Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods with Trine Studios. They also released ArcaniA(Gothic 4) using Spellbound Studios. Both where no where close to the original 2.

Piranha–Bytes on the other hand could not officially fix Gothic 3 as they had no rights to the IP. So some of the developers helped the community. So technically you can say Community patch was made by civilians with the help from original developers. Piranha–Bytes also went on to make Risen and Risen 2, both's story will be weaved back into Gothic universe once the IP has returned.

Hope this help you understand why you need patches also where the games lie in the timeline.

That is very interesting. I must look if machinima has a piranna-bytes "all your history are belong to us" episode on youtube.
