Only 1 in 3 players finish games. Do you finish yours?

Yeah I definitely do. I pick a single game and don't touch anything else till I'm done with it. There are other games that are constantly there though that I'll hop in to when the mood hits. Things like Civ 5, Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, Europa Universalis IV etc.

Indies are a bit of an exception, I know it's not the right way to look at things but I view them as "throw away games" often only playing half way through one or maybe even just a couple of levels. More of a distraction really.

My bigger issue is actually getting time to play all the games I buy...

Yeah... no.

This isn't an accurate statistic at all. On it's own the completion % is meaningless.

I started playing the walking dead, didn't really get into it in the first hour, and haven't played it since. Am I now one of those 2 in 3 players who don't finish games?

A more accurate way of reporting these statistics would be: 75% players who completed roughly 50% of the game's storyline went on to complete it... or 40% of players who didn't finish also didn't advance further than 20% into the game.

Now that would have meant something. You can't report on only one variable - to establish some kind of relationship it needs to be compared against something independent (like progression)

I finish 99% of the games I purchase. I do however have a backlog to work through but I get there eventually :p

I think it's bogus to use steam achievements for this, there are so many people who have hundreds of games in their collections from humble bundle, flash sales etc, and lots of people don't want to play indie title xx123, I think a far better option would've been to use xbox live/ PS trophy lists, I finish almost all my games, or well try to, but I'm finishing them in stages, not immediately after I've bought a game, it might take me a year to get to it and finish it, but i'll get there, so the stats are a bit bogus in my opinion...

I usually finish 99% of the games I play. Though it does help that I stick to about 2 games at a time before moving on.

This is a very good point... Iv got quite a few games on humble that i would never have actually bought, but still tried out because i had them... If i pay full price for a PS3 game, im gona make dam sure i finish it...

I finish most games I play except if they are really terrible, too buggy to finish or don't have a real ending.

I try to finish all the games I buy, but sometimes I lose interest and can't be bothered to finish it. I'd say I finish about 90% of the games I buy.

I finish around 80% of the games I buy. Games that I do not finish are games that I tend to get bored with half-way through, they don't live up to my expectations or if I prefer the MP over the SP. I have only played the first three missions of BF4 but I play the MP daily, does that mean I haven't finished it?

Another issue with the statistic is that you don't need to achieve 100% completion in order to "finish the game". I played GTA 5 and finished the story line and most of the side missions. I'm still nowhere near 100%. To me, I'm finished with the game as soon as the credits start rolling.

Think it's even more that don't finish a game, just take a game on Steam that has a achievements for finishing the game and check out the global achievement percentage.

Darksiders (first one)

Easy: 13.1
Normal: 10.1
Apoc: 1.9

That's 25%
1/4

Even less if Normal also unlocks the Easy one.

Some of my games don't have something called completed the game most of them have completed defeating this or that. Does this survey take that into account?

The statistics for the games on Steam only count for the games that has been activated.

Using the trophy list can also skew the results. What would count as "completed the game"? Just finishing it on easy/medium, or going all out and getting the Plat (100%) and all that that entails? Some games, like The Walking Dead, you basically just have to play through the game to get the Plat (or 100% completion). Other games like The Last of Us, Ni No Kuni, Uncharted require a bit more effort or play throughs. Think after finishing TLOU it showed 5% complete. I have started a new play through on a harder difficulty, and I'm on 10% now, but still plenty to go. Ni No Kuni you can complete in 50 odd hours, but if you play normally that ends up being about a 42% or 46% according to the list. It just sometimes isn't worth it, or even fun, having to replay some games just to get a higher percentage according to your trophy list.

As for myself, I'm concentrating on a few titles which I would like to get as close to 100% as possible. Not because I have to, but because I like the challenge. Like Wlad said, if the game doesn't grip me or I loose interest halfway through I normally don't bother coming back to it later. There's just too many other quality games available or coming to keep me occupied for quite some time.
