Open FNB account and get Macbook Pro MD101, pay x24 no interest. Worth it?

I'm thinking of picking this up since I do need a laptop, but as it is an arse load of money, I'd like to get some opinions on it first.

R527 x 24 they said, no interest. That comes to 12 grand. I want to play Guild Wars 2 on it, but dunno if it can handle that:

Intel Dual Core i5
500GB Hard drive
4GB DDR3 Ram
Intel Graphics HD 4000

Hmmz

it's worth it just to open an FNB account ^_^

but that's A LOT of money for that spec, you can get 'n better laptop for less than that

I wouldn't do it but then again I wouldn't go mac because they are so overpriced. Normal pc/laptops are a lot cheaper for what you get.

exactly what I was about to say ^_^

you can get a better spec pc laptop for half the price

The Intel 4000 graphics are actually pretty decent compared to the 3000. It can be used for casual gaming. I would never get one, mind you.

Seeing as Guild Wars 2 actually lists the Intel 3000 as minimum system requirements,
"NVIDIA® GeForce® 7800, ATI X1800, Intel HD 3000, or better (256MB of video RAM and shader model 3.0 or better)"
you'd be a big step up from the minimum.

All that being said, you would still need to install Windows to play (unless they've decided on making a mac version), but that can be done easily these days.

Macbooks are light, but if you don't plan on running OS/X and don't mind having a heavier or bulkier laptop, another make/model might be a good idea.

Whilst I have a MacBook Pro and love it to bits, I just ordered a new PC today for the sole reason of playing Guild Wars 2. I'm not keen on installing Windows on my Mac, so unless you plan on going that route it won't run GW2. I'd recommend a Mac any day, except for the purpose of gaming. I got one for the novelty factor and because I needed a reliable machine that looks pretty ( :D ) and on which I could do things like browse the web, listen to music, watch series in bed etc.

The HD 4000 graphics are a big step up from the HD 3000, but if you're mainly aiming at gaming with it you'll be wasting your cash. If your expectations are lower then go for it :)

Only games would really be GW2, and stuff under it req specs. I'm tempted because to buy a laptop I either have to save up for ages or go for this opportunity.

Will definitely be putting Win 7 on it. Will it run fine with Win 7?

I am sure other places have options that you can pay off the laptop that you could come up better then that, unless you really really want the mac
//don't know why anyone would lol

I would rather use my credit card or Edgars card (like I did), or even take out a personal loan, pay the bit of interest and get 'n decent pc laptop, and it'll still be cheaper than that R12k overrated mac :D

Win 7 will run very well on it. But if you can find another place to make payments at, get another make/model. My last laptop was a Macbook Pro, partially because it had better battery life, but mostly because I had recently had surgery on my shoulder, and it was the lightest laptop I could find with high enough specs to suit my needs.

You can get something with a better dedicated video card for cheaper with the rest of the specs being very similar, plus it should come with a copy of Windows already, so you won't have to dish out extra cash for that.

Truth be told you could probably get a better laptop on contract elsewhere and still pay less regardless of interest.

Go for the Mac if gaming isn't going to be your focus :)

Is this the latest generation of MacBook. If so, bear in mind you can't upgrade the RAM cos it's soldered on, or replace the battery.

I'd also say shop around for a better non-Apple laptop.

I paid R13,000 roughly for my laptop over a year ago, and it will whip that MacBook in terms of performance, and even give it a run for money on looks.

I'd say keep an eye on those specials brochures from Makro, Dion, etc.

They are often clearing older stock at good prices. Those big chain stores like that also get direct deals with the big manufacturers like HP, Asus, etc, so you can actually find bargains on sale.

It's a mac, do I need to say any more? :)

On a serious note, take everyones advice and don't do it, it's not worth it as stated a Laptop with better specs for less is a better option. Take my advice and stay away from FNB.

The biggest con with signing up for this deal, is that you will have to sign a contract and basically be stuck with them for 2 years. And a lot can happen in two years. That laptop is super overpriced for what you are getting. Maybe save some money till the GW2 release date and then you can buy a decent laptop. The Ivy Bridge CPU with the HD4000 should be mainstream around then, so you won't be paying through the roof.
