Origin games - On The House

Dragon Age: Origins
Battlefield 3

They are a SLEAZY bunch though, that I will give them.

Forgot about those. A couple of years back EA was one of my favourite companies, a great deal of my physical collection of games bear the EA logo. They always had decent local prices and great quality games, it's sad to see how they've become although some great games do get published from time to time.

EA are a cheap bunch damn, why dont they give never titles away, atleast something from the 2000's

?

They have given away Dragon Age: Origins before. I think that's a pretty generous thing to give away, it's really not even that old - 2009. It is a AAA game that is as playable now as it was when it was released.

Besides, I don't think it's cheap of them to be giving *any* games away. A free game is a free game. If you don't want it, don't take it. You will have lost nothing.

Edit: Well mottamort beat me to it. And ja, Battlefield 3 - that's a 2011 game.

I felt the same way about Blizzard and Activision, and now Activision Blizzard is one of the companies I might never support again.

Dont forget about the humble EA bundle- that was a really good bundle. Yeah EA still does some stupid things, but I have to say that Ubisoft has overtaken them as my worst developer. I still like their games unfortunately, but man they do some frustrating things.

They are still super sleazy! :P

Yeah, definitely. I mean look at all the studios they closed after they bought them. Where's the logic behind that? :wtf:

  • Maxis (SimCity) - Purchased by EA in 1997; shut down in 2015. [Though EA says the "Maxis" brand will live on, the main studio is officially no more.]
  • Mythic (Dark Age of Camelot) - Purchased by EA in 2006; shut down in 2014.
  • Bullfrog (Syndicate, Dungeon Keeper) - Purchased by EA in 1995; shut down in 2001.
  • Origin (Ultima, Wing Commander) - Purchased by EA in 1992; shut down in 2004.
  • Westwood (Command & Conquer) - Purchased by EA in 1998; shut down in 2003.
  • DreamWorks Interactive/Danger Close/EA Los Angeles (Medal of Honor) - Purchased by EA in 2000; shut down in 2013.
  • Phenomic (SpellForce, BattleForge) - Purchased by EA in 2006; shut down in 2013.
  • Black Box Games (Need for Speed, Skate) - Purchased by EA in 2002; shut down in 2013.
  • Pandemic (The Saboteur) - Purchased by EA in 2008; shut down in 2009.
  • PlayFish (The Sims Social) - Purchased by EA in 2009; shut down in 2013.
  • NuFX (NBA Street) - Purchased by EA in 2004; shut down in 2007.

The list is even longer if you add in the studios where the founders GTFO'd because they had had enough of EA's bullshit. Criterion and Bioware come to mind.

This is very interesting. I wonder what the point of buying these were then?

Take control of the IP.

Take the Ip out of the hands of the original creators, screw up a follow up release, if they have a follow up release at all, and then bury the IP- doesn't sound like an efficient system.

It's working okay for them so far.

There has been a lot of hate towards EA & Origin over the past couple of years.

But I personally like them, sure EA have failed with many things ( Command & Conquer R.I.P.) but they try and do good too, Battle For Middle Earth I & II, SWTOR ect.

Origin support was South African customer service at first but since 2012 it has been of German quality. They are super helpful and quick to sort issues out.

Plus free games :P

Can't wait for dat dere Mass Effect 2, Need For Speeds & Medal of Honours, hell even Battlefield 2 or 2142 would be fun again
