Our teenage medium needs a kick in the balls says Jade Raymond

There are several issues here really. The cost of making games seems to have forced people to always go for the biggest possible audience regardless of your subject matter. The attitude of the media and non-gamers towards video games also seems to discourage adult discussion since every time you bring up adult themes you get this backlash crying out about how those should be in games kids play.

That being said even when companies do touch on those issue it's not always done in the most mature fashion, nor is it always appropriate for the situation. Nor do I want to have to deal with politics in every game I play.

The entire AAA system is just way beyond broken, and it's holding back the entire industry.

I mean, Bobby Kotick doesn't play games? Seriously? Bobby-fucking-Kotick, the head of Activision, one of the biggest publishers out there with the best-selling games on the market; openly admitted that he doesn't even play videogames. WTF is this shit?

The problems with the industry doesn't lie with one of the links, it lies with the fact that the industry is dominated by businessmen, not gamers.

Where would the gaming industry be had it been dominated by people who still made games because they loved, well... games.
