Yes, it is recommended you consult the manufacturer for timings.
Not setting them won't cause your SSD to not work though...
It will simply be slow and/or cause your system to BlueScreen at times, and/or not boot at all.
The voltages could be whats screwing with you though.
My MSI board also has this "easymode overclocking" feature, but it causes more problems than it solves.
Try clocking manually, if anything.
But be warned, clocking can be VERY dangerous.
Warranty will not cover any damages.
My recommendation:
Try getting your system to boot normally with the CPU at it's rated speed.
Memory at it's rated speed and timings.
Etc etc.
Once you have that tested and stable, then start tweaking on the CPU overclocking.
