Overheating GPU

That or pull out the power tools and make a hole for a new set of fans until you can afford a nice shiny new chassis

Get a new case. The older cases don't cut it when it comes to the new hardware. My GTX280 went up in flames due to a lack of space beneath the GFX card and the bottom of the case. Look for a case that has fans at the bottom to help with airflow. Most of the hot air leaves through the back and top of the case. If the air gets trapped between the GFX card and the case it will cause overheating very easily.

The GTX280 was a card that ran warm even with good fans and venting, but on the day it died it was the closest I have ever been to a real live volcano.
....but I love my handle box

Now that sounds like a plan! :p

I'll take a pic of my rig to night for reference purposes :)

Actually do that for us, but take pics with the side panel off so we can see how cluttered the space it. You might have warm air stuck in a cycle around your card as well.

MalicE, I may have a spare fan for you, got 2 free with an RMA replacement for my Corsair H100i(they may have special connectors though, will check tonight). I also have most tools that we can use to cut your chassis and to mount a fan.

I also have thermal paste made from silver and the tears of 40 virgins, so we can get most of this done in one day.

PS: My GPU also runs about 70 - 80, especially since my PC is in a room on the sun...

Take up TBlaar's offer. Cheaper to mod a case than to replace one. :D
Also be sure to tidy up the cables, you probably want to buy TBlaar a drink for this... cable managing takes long!

If you are cutting fan holes on the bottom of the chassis, consider grabbing a couple of these:

maybe it's just me but I get very worried when I think about putting anything magnetic in my case...

Are you perhaps my neighbour? I have a room on the Sun as well.

BTW. Brilliant of you to help a guy out like that!

MY PC room gets direct sunlight from the morning until late at night, and it's about a 3 x 3 m room, so yeah, it can get quite hot.

MalicE and I are actual friends AFK as well, and I love any DIY project :)

Beer and powertools!!! We just need strippers and it's a date!

Perhaps we can do this on the 1st, before that thing that will happen... not sure if Wyvern has told you about this..

but the first is pre-release weekend is it not?

FYI the max temp of the 560 gpu core is 97c-99c so I wouldn't worry about 70 that much will check mine tonight and see what its max temp has been.

edit:
also do you have space for a fan on the front of your case?
