Overwatch's multiplayer netcode is now better than Counter-Strike's

All fair and well... but I wonder how this will affect people like us with already 200ms+ pings?

We were limited before. Now with a higher tick rate that's more data being sent/received meaning higher pings or latency, am I understanding this correctly?

I don't think so. I believe that a higher tick rate simply requires slightly more bandwidth, meaning it shouldn't affect latency unless your line speed is exceedingly low.

The increase in client updates means that overall lag between two players can be reduced due to the more consistent flow of information between client and server :)

I bought Overwatch over the weekend. Great fun, I am sitting at work wanting to play more.

While playing, I saw a constant downstream of about 70 KB/s, which I think is quite high. I didn't check what the upload was, will have a look tonight when I play again.
