PC Format South Africa is shutting down

Last one I bought was back in 2004.. because internet became mainstream in SA and all the news I got from google instead.

I can't believe this !!! i have been reading since 2002 i think wow geez i really don't want to have to go back to NAG!

End of an era. Never really liked pc format last time I got it was 2003 :O Wow My word that was a while ago :(

I will say that PCF always had more useful stuff on their cover DVD than NAG, even if the programs were mostly out of date versions. No reason to buy it anymore when I could just go online and get the latest version. RIP PCF.

They've been fading for ages now, I'm only curious to know how this will affect G.3.A.R.

I stopped reading PCF a few years ago when I realized that not only were most of their articles and reviews copy/paste from the UK edition, it was outdated copy/paste from the UK edition. Sometimes by as much as 3 editions.
I kept on buy the magazine for the cover DVD, but as internet grew cheaper, I had no use for it anymore.
Still, it's with a nostalgia induced touch of sadness that I see them go.

I haven't read an issue in years, but it filled many an afternoon for me in high school. It's quite a sad thing.

Why the hell didn't they have a digital version? A tech mag without a digital version is beyond me. They could have scrapped the print altogether.

My wife is a sub editor for PC Format. Luckily she works on the other magazines at the company too. However a couple of people have lost their jobs with PC Format shutting down.

Garth hasn't been there long. In fact it must be sucky for him to start working there a couple of months ago and then to have this happen.

I don't even know where Michael will go who works for them.

It's sad when these things happen. I hope that everyone who is affected by this get new good jobs easily. :(

The best writers generally pick themselves back up with freelancing. It really is unfortunate though that individuals get so affected by the failures of others.

Yeah all jokes aside, it's hella sad that something that has been around for so long will just suddenly vanish.

I think I was subscribed back in 1997 or thereabouts. I remember getting both the UK CD and the the local one back then. They became irrelevant when I got decent access to the internet, though.

When I was copy editing for them for a few months last year I had a glimpse into what was going on in the background and their financials. Even as far back as that, it was already not looking too good. It sucks and Garth did what he could to keep the ship running. Given more time, he might have turned it around completely.
