PC Format South Africa is shutting down

I don't buy magazines like this anymore due to internet. I think the internet has made a huge impact in our lives. so many good stuff going down the drain like LANs and now this. There is hardly any good lans now due to games that need internet and unfortunately we can only dream of the average lan with decent internet. Rage is pretty much the only good LAN in South Africa.

But I must say this is sad but it's painfull for me to be sad when i know I haven't supported them in a such a long time.

Check out Liberty Lan dude, it's also for a good cause!

My wife is a sub editor for PC Format. Luckily she works on the other magazines at the company too. However a couple of people have lost their jobs with PC Format shutting down.

Garth hasn't been there long. In fact it must be sucky for him to start working there a couple of months ago and then to have this happen.

I don't even know where Michael will go who works for them.

It's sad when these things happen. I hope that everyone who is affected by this get new good jobs easily. :(

It is sad. I've been a digital subscriber for a while now but the digital editions were always almost 2 weeks later than the print. The business model for magazines has to be totally rethought.

Wow the last time I bough a pcf was 15+ years ago. When there was no internet other than dial-up.

HAHA! I Was thinking the same thing! The last PCF I bought came with a Resident Evil Nemesis Demo or was it Beetle Crazy Cup? I just use reddit now, it's so much easier.

That makes no sense at all.

It's no wonder. PCFormat has been shit for years now. I remember buying a copy in 2005 and being pissed that I wasted any money on it, because there was absolutely nothing worth reading in it.

It was due to happen, a lot of locally published magazines bit the dust in the last few years, due to low advertising revenue and poor circulation, also PCF sucked after Mars Mlodzinski left. It appears he is now in Dubai editing for a health magazine?

Thanks for pointing out my rubbish post.

Let me try again, the writing was on the wall from mid 2013, when their digital version took longer and longer to produce - that's what I was trying to say.

This is not surprising as the circulation of most magazines has fallen due to availability of the same info free on the net.

I wish all the folk well. Losing your job now is never easy, especially now.

I stopped reading PCF a few years ago when I realized that not only were most of their articles and reviews copy/paste from the UK edition, it was outdated copy/paste from the UK edition. Sometimes by as much as 3 editions.
I kept on buy the magazine for the cover DVD, but as internet grew cheaper, I had no use for it anymore.
Still, it's with a nostalgia induced touch of sadness that I see them go.

Yep, same reason I stopped.

What if only a DVD casing was released, with the actual mag in PDF format...
Guess it's too late for weird ideas that wouldn't work anyways.

Also not enough gaming content, already have a PC, fast enough to not have to overclock it anymore.

Was never the same since Mars left. Read it through high school was good then. Haven't bought in ages because of the net just being to offer a lot more.

Agreed. Since then I bought it for a few months more,ADSL came along and never bothered since.

Damn...

I was subscribed to this for a year... and my company had a subscription until like 2 months ago... I read one like a month ago..

It's a shame.
