my brother has bought my nephew a laptop,id like to get him a game or two!!

spec are as follows

Acer
amd turion(he says triton) x 64 bit 2.1 ghz
3g ram
250 g hdd
geforce 8400 128 mb(i dunno if its a gt or gs)
he says the g card is upgradable to 1 gig

from what ive seen this is a low spec laptop in terms of graphics

cod 4 ,need for speed undercover, assasins creed will work for sure, bt i want to get the okey something newer

suggestions??

What should work and are some cool games according to me.

Dragon Age Origins (and expansion Awakening if he likes it.)

Modern Warfare 2 should work. Maybe even Black Ops

And then go check steam you can get one of thous bundles to if you have a enough cap can get like 20 games for R500. And they will probably work on his laptop 2. And if you have cap limitation the money you can save by buying on steam you can get this(http://www.afrihost.com/site/product/adsl_capped) to DL it with. Just remember to cancel it before the 25/26 Dec

13 years old

playing dragon age, ive got to see that!!lol

bt shot matey, iam going to have a lookey tonight for games!!

Yeah ... lowish specs in terms of graphics - but it should still run most recent games quite fine - unless he demands crystal clear high-def quality - and most games can do without tbh. Black Ops may be pushing it a little though ...

i think iam going to give him ,burnout paradise ultimate box it will run just fine on that lil puter!!

was looking at prince of persia trilogy(i just want it.shhhhhhh)

MW specs are on the borderline

"my boet says its a gaming laptop"

i lolled!!!

Get him the Valve Complete pack For $50 R350. And they all should be able to run on that lappy and well a lot of 13 year olds still play counterstrike source and gary's mod. The only thing that might have a problem is TF2

That's a brilliant idea. +1 from my side.

Yeah Valve pack is best value for money. Plus 22 games just sounds better than 2 games. A few scenes might be a bit unsuitable for a 13y.o. though like Ravenholm in HL2.

Another +1 for the Valve complete pack. Excellent games in there that should run great on his lappy, just all round excellent value for money. All the games are FPS though, so hopefully he likes shooters =)

don't waste your money on NFS Undercover, it is a pathetic game.
otherwise all the suggestions ave been good :)

Yeah, definitely check out the Valve complete pack. Can't go wrong.

Steam has plenty of cool stuff on sale right now, including a number of awesome indie games. Titles such as Beat Hazard, Braid, Machinarium come to mind.

Have I mentioned Super Meat Boy? :D Dunno how much patience a 13 y/o has for that type of game though, and it is best played with a game pad.

Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age Origins probably have too many adult themes, and I'm sceptical about how good their performance would be. Although when I was 13 I was playing the latest and greatest violent stuff and I turned out OK (for the most part).

StarCraft II? Can't really go wrong there (if the kid likes RTS). The game is rather well coded and it should run on lower settings on that laptop.

It sounds like this is a general purpose entertainment laptop though, and it won't really cut the gaming mustard. I don't think that poor GPU is going to handle much, but it depends on which variant of the 8400M series is in there.

Upgradable to 1gig VRAM? I doubt that. Laptop GPUs are typically integrated onto the motherboard along with some integrated VRAM dedicated to the GPU. Laptop GPUs usually share a ratio of the system RAM (ratio dependent of how much system RAM there is). Sticking more system RAM in there might make more available for use by the GPU. Of course, then you need an x64 operating system to take advantage of more than 4GB of RAM.

Anyway, hope it all works out for your nephew :)
