PC hardware you shouldn't buy this Christmas

Meh.... This is the way it always works... As soon as you want to buy, something new comes out. And guess what, as soon as that comes out, something new would be in the works so you won't buy then either...

It's this exact attitude which has made that I have had the same PC for the last seven years!!! :D

I am buying most of the above stuff next week :) :(

I definitely agree about not buying a HDD. I got a 2TB for R699 at the end of September. Now the average price for the same drive is around R1800

Ivy bridge is still far off, and although it will offer some decent performance increases ( according to intel ) I already know that it'll be much more expensive than Sandy bridge, unfortunately its just how intel has always worked. Even Sandy Bridge E is pointless as its pretty much been designed for people that have cash to blow, real world gains won't be noticeable to the naked eye. Trust me I have been in the pc business for ages and I myself have spent over 80k on pc parts this year.

Sandy Bridge is fantastic and it offers real future proofing, with its insane overclocking. Buying sandy now and running it for 2-3 years to come is something I opted for and I am glad I did.

As for the GPU, you guys stated it won't be coming to SA, and you're quite correct, the card has been made available in Europe and the states, as for offering value for money..IT WON'T!! It'll cost pretty much what a GTX570 does, financially it would make more sense just to buy a GTX570 then.

Thanks for the heads-up. I am thinking about getting a new graphics card.

Speak to Joker then, he will hook you up with something good at a really decent price.
I am thinking of getting some speakers soon, 5.1 set for myself actually.

Why do MyG and MyBB do so many of these "don't buy this now" articles, if you believed all this stuff you would never buy anything because something new is always around the corner.

Only thing you can DEFINITELY recommend not buying now unless you absolutely have to is a new HDD, prices are 200-250% their 'regular' values.

@Joker, I scheme I am buying the setup we discussed in my thread... if I wait for better parts, I'll always be waiting...

Well, at the end of the day BUY if you really need it (or NEED to upgrade). There will always be better stuff comming or price increases or decreases. Just make sure you get the best bang for your buck when buying...

ive been looking into an upgrade but financials arent so good around christmas time so going to put my upgrade off to just before D3 comes out. Hopefully some of the newer parts are out although must say I think the Ivy bridges are going to kill your pocket for the first couple months they are out, might just be better to go for the sandy bridge.

i just bought a (ASUS ENGTX560 DCII TOP/2DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5) for R2k so i guess this article is all too late for me.when will the newer cards be available though?i love the performance of this card though.been with ATi for a while and im soooooooooooo glad im back with the green-team again.just feels better.

Its the same with tvs. You can never win, the minute you buy something there will be something around the corner coming out that will be even better at a better price and the value of the TV you bought just goes crashing. I've had my computer for quite a while now and am desperate need of an upgrade. The current hard drive prices are pushing up the price by a couple of K, and as a result I have to postpone my purchase. Thanks for the info though:)

Got a hard drive quote today and was completely shocked - who knew some excess water could screw everything up so badly :|

With Intel's Tick-Tock roadmap cycle I've found it always better to buy hardware on the "Tock" rather than the "Tick" as it is more refined and usually reduced in price as manufacturing becomes easier and more efficient, yes waiting will get you the next "Tick" of newer CPU's but at what cost?
