PC-is-making-a-comeback

I'm not sure PC gaming ever had a decline in the first place. I think the problem with sales numbers for the last 5 years has been digital distribution. At first the numbers were just completely disregarded and all reports of PC sales decline only referenced retail sales. Now stats houses have realized that digital sales make up a very significant, if not the majority of PC sales but the problem still lies in that places like Steam don't give out their sales data. Then when you start going into the free to play and subscription based model things get even more complicated. Sure you may have only bought 1 physical copy (ok4 with xpacs) of World of Warcraft but some have spent $900 in subs just playing the game. Free to play is even more complicated since a single person can spent anything from $0 to a few hundred $$ on something like League of Legends.

There are just so many business models and so many places to purchase in the PC space that it's a LOT harder to even estimate a total number than it is for single platform, tightly controlled console gaming space.
