PC Mouse vs Xbox 360 controls - GRRRRR!

I wonder if I'm the only one with this problem...

After YEARS of playing shooter/RPG games on my PC (UT2 & 3 etc), and getting VERY used to how easy it is to aim and manoeuvre with the mouse/keyboard combo, I just CANNOT get into similar titles on the Xbox. I just find it SO frustrating that the accuracy takes so much more work... maybe I'm lazy, maybe I'm getting old... og $#!*...

You do get used to it but it'll never be as accurate as a mouse and keyboard. My problem is the sticks on the controller. If you press them down it normally does something like throw grenade, knife, whatever.

Now because I a bit hard on the controller I often accidently press sticks down.... when I really shouldn't....... then I die.

That pisses me off something stupid.

I really takes awhile but when you do get the hang of it, it becomes rather fun. Yes it's not as accurate but I find it to be much smoother and in a weird way more rewarding (and comfortable).

For now I'm staying away from FPS's on xbox and sticking to controller made games like racers / fighters / RPG'ers

I suck waaay too badly at the toggle aiming thing :(

So you're (Toxin) a premature stickpresser and I'm an inaccurate aimer... hmm... I though gaming is supposed to IMPROVE hand-eye coordination! Anyway, thank you for making me feel better, so console aiming just isn't as accurate as mouse aiming no matter what you do, and it's not just me? lol

That's PRECISELY my attitude!!

IMO controllers are only useful for action/fighter type games. FPS requires mouse/keyboard combo and racing games needs a wheel.
Anything that requires quick accurate movement is not possible/fun with a controller.

Although there's some people (I've read quite a few forums) who learned how to play FPS games on a controller and just can't get the mouse+kb combination to work for them. I've also seen some FPS xbox vids on youtube showing people with some elite skillz. I guess it's different strokes for different folks.

Like I mentioned earlier, it might not be AS accurate but it's much smoother and since I can chill out on the couch playing fallout 3 I also believe it's much more comfortable. Practice makes perfect anyway.

I suppose the resistance to change is the hardest thing to get over.

It took me a while to get used to the Logitech keyboard layout vs the conventional layout (I'm referring to the Home/End/PgUp/PgDn keys above the cursor keys). It took me a while to get used to them, but now I can't go back.

I know you can connect a USB keyboard for messenger stuff but I'm not sure about the mouse part and if games support it.

You are correct, keyboard is only for text, mouse and games not supported, but...
...you can get the XFPS 360 adapter, although I believe it didn't get good ratings.

For the people with local bandwidth...

XCM has unveiled today the very first pictures of its XFPS 360 adapter for the Xbox 360 video game system. This cool device lets you connect a mouse and keyboard to your Xbox 360 via the USB port, in addition to an Xbox 360 controller and even a Sony DualShock controller.

As you may guess, this is not an authorized peripheral but definitely a much wanted adapter for those PC gamers that want to try Xbox 360 games but feel intimidated by a console controller.

PC Gamers will have the chance to play Shadowrun with both mouse and keyboard or the Xbox 360 controller; now, thanks to XCM, Xbox 360 gamers will have the same options.

/edit: btw this article was published in Nov 2006

Yeah, then you are better off with the normal controller.

What about connecting a keyboard and mouse to a PS3? Is it the same story?

Edit: Soz guys, but I never had the privilege of owning one. :o

I believe it is. Even if you could connect it, I don't think the game are programmed to support it anyway. (Maybe strategy titles support mice...I dunno)

Then I will never own a console.

Edit: Until they can support it. The way I see it, 'n console is a pc that you never have to upgrade, until the next one comes out. That's actually the perfect pc...

I find it rewarding mastering aiming with analogue sticks. I did it all the way back on PSOne with Quake 2. Mouse+Keyboard still wins obviously, though nothing wrong with the console option.
