PC or gaming laptop?

That isn't at all a bad price, but you will get a far greater PC for that price instead. gaming also always does better on PC than it does on Laptop. If the end product that you desire is maximum cost-to-performance ratio then there is literally nothing better than PC.

I agree. I can get a beast for this price but I need my laptop for work so I'm thinking that I'll be killing two birds with one stone. :-)

You could always get a killer desktop and get a cheap laptop for work for the same price as a gaming laptop.
Pros for desktop-
A lot more powerful
Bigger screen- more comfortable viewing angle.
upgradable.

Pros for a laptop-
-I agree with the upgrade thing, but keep in mind also that by the time it comes to upgrading anything, you're probably not going to be able to find anything that's compatible, because hardware specifications change all the time. That's the problem I have found myself having over the last little while. - I either have to pay a lot for a marginal increase in power, keep it as is or upgrade everything!
- you can always carry it through to your lounge and and plug it into the tv, and crash on the couch along with a good controller- this may be more comfortable for you coming from a console background.

Yeah, I am looking at an i7 or higher i5 chip abut I'm more worried about the graphics card. I love my lappy and it has served me well (Acer Aspire with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570) but the graphics card only really allowed me to play games at medium quality. I will need a better card and I think the i7 and more Ram will probably also help loads.

I also see the advantage of a PC as the PC has the upgradeability going for it but you can't take a PC with you on a business trip and play BF4 or AC4 in the Mugg & Bean now can you. :-)

Hahaha, that's why I picked a laptop over a PC...So I can use it anywhere I want. If anything, the graphics card is the bottleneck of my laptop (specs in signature). I can play all new games at medium but get just above or under 30fps. To play comfortably, I gotta play on low graphics :( I played the BF4 Beta on low and was still lagging (I am hoping this is because it was in beta and not the final product).

Just browse around places and look for the best deal. My mistake was just going into 1 place and buying straight away.....

Like ave just said below. Get a monster of a PC for gaming purposes and get a shitstain of a laptop for work :D

Personally i think a pc is better for gaming because you can upgrade whatever you want, however you want without any limitations. Laptops are good for gaming on the go but they are only built to take a certain amount of RAM, Hard Drive and only one specific Graphics card, which is very limiting for a gamer if you take to account the ever improving/changing graphics of todays games which will require you to upgrade at some point.
