PC RAM and Fan Help

So, I'm a console man, and hardly know much about PC's. Yeah I can use one, do some programming and that kind of thing, but my actual PC hardware knowledge (and networking for that matter) is terrible.

So here's the deal.

My current PC only has 1Gig DDR2 RAM after one died on me a while back. Since then I haven't wanted to go near my PC as it just makes me angry - slow PC's do that. Now I have to do some development on it, it needs an upgrade.

I need to upgrade my RAM, and also replace the processor fan - as it sounds like a jumbo jet on steroids. Honestly, I can't even sleep with the PC on...in another room...its so loud!

So what should I buy? 3 x 1gig memory? To have 4gigs. One 2gig? (keeping in mind I'm running 32bit Windows XP)

Also, on the fan front...how do I know what kind of fan to order?

Just get a 2GB module. Win XP can't see more than that anyways.

You can probably just go to your nearest brick and mortar store and buy a CPU cooler. Can be something cheap like R100. That board you have came out just before the G31 series, so I doubt you have a high end CPU in there.

Cool, so that'll bring me to the 3gig addressing limit. What about matching and that kind of thing?
