Shipments of personal computers dropped 8.6 per cent in the third quarter of 2013 as strong tablet sales continued to eat into sales of traditional laptop and desktop models, research firm Gartner said Wednesday.

Worldwide PC shipments totaled 80.3 million units, down from 87.8 million a year earlier, marking the sixth consecutive quarter of declining worldwide shipments.

I still can't believe how people think that a tablet can replace their computer.

For the purpose of social networking and simple internet and email, yes. But for the larger scale I think this is merely a statistic that is based upon a fad and will change or level it's self out again.
