PC vs console in the living room

The time has come to either build a new gaming pc or get a console.
With the price for console games, my existing steam library etc I'm more inclined to build a pc.

How useful will a pc with some xbox controllers + wireless kb and mouse be on a tv?
Anyone tried steam's big picture and care to provide feedback?

Let's put it this way: There is absolutely nothing a console can do that a good PC can't do, except maybe play some console exclusives.

I don't use Big Picture mode often, but when I did it looked pretty decent, especially after the last update.

Well I'm busy putting together a "Steam Box" with a RaspberryPi2. If all goes swimmingly, there won't even be a need for big picture, Steam or even a need for hardware. Everything will be streamed and processed on my capable PC to the SteamBox and hopefully minimal input lag (if any).

I've been using my PC on my TV for the last few years.... since i got my pc actually.
I have a wired XBOX controller plugged in and use a wireless KB & mouse. - the mouse just eats up batteries :(

When not playing games, we use the TV&PC anything from watching series to working from home.
