Petrol price going up by 71c per litre next week

The retail price of all grades of petrol will increase by 71 cents per litre on Wednesday April 4, the Department of Energy announced on Friday (30 March 2012).

The price of 0.05% sulphur diesel and that of 0.005% sulphur diesel will go up by 51.9 cents and 53.9 cents per litre respectively.

During the period under review, the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin increased.

The average rand/US$ exchange rate strengthened when compared to the previous period.

The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate strengthened when compared with the previous period. The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate for the period March 2 2012 to March 30 2012 was 7.6193 compared with 7.6790 during the previous period.

The strengthening of the rand against the US Dollar decreased the contribution to the basic fuels price on petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin by 5.41 c/l, 5.53 c/l and 5.40 c/l respectively.

Petrol 95 ULP octane in Gauteng will now cost R11.94 a litre, while at the coast it will cost R11.59 per litre compared with R9.88 previously.

One thing I just wonder, if the ANC is installing e-tolling, shouldn't they then reduce the road-tax they impose on petrol?

That's a rhetorical question, obviously, as the ANC would never do something to make themselves lose income like that, but it just shows how the tax payers are being shafted once again. What is it now, 3 million tax-payers supporting 30 million poor, unemployed people?
 
Again :( one day it will hit R20 Litre, even food has gone up a lot milk use to be cheap now its nearing R20 for Clover

I know! Two years back I bought a 2lt milk in Stellenbosch for R12, now I have to pay R17. :(

The worst part is that every time the petrol goes up, food prices increase, but when petrol goes down again, food prices stay high.

Ye which is kind of stupid, I guess they think if people pay this much for milk etc. then why decrease it afterwards
