Electronics manufacturer Philips claims it holds patents to technology used by the Wii and Wii U

...what about doing this when the console was selling millions of units every month? Perhaps they waited until Nintendo amassed a fortune, then saw the opportunity to go after them, so that the damages are higher and therefore a bigger pay-day.

The whole patent system needs to be overhauled or scratched completely, in my opinion.

Why register/file patents when you're not going to make use of them? The same thing with domains. Seems like a cheap pre-emptive strike for a cash-in later down the line.
