Planet Coaster

Yeah, saw this a while ago. Remind me a lot of Rollercoaster Tycoon. Think it's also by Frontier?

Yip, that's the reason it reminds you of Rollercoaster Tycoon 3. In addition to RCT3, they've also made Screamride. And now this one. They seem to like rollercoasters. A lot.

Also maybe a reason why the ships in Elite: Dangerous feel like they're flying on rails? :D

Let's not go down this road again, don't get Wyzak started :p

Who knows, maybe this will have an offline mode? ;)

If they can get the people to not walk through each other this will be awesome.

Dev Diary 1 below.

Limited Alpha (for pre-order Alpha owners) started as scheduled yesterday, so progress on Planet Coaster is going good it seems.
Video First Look from Luetin Gaming from a few days ago at a dev hosted event:

Game is presently in running Alpha 3 version for alpha level backers. Even at this early stage though, there's been some amazing community modding and content creation going on.

Also, as mentioned in DGH's Management Sims thread, there's a challenge mode in the game that looks like it could an interesting approach to playing:

Release date has been set for 17 November.

I am seriously considering getting into the alpha at this point, as the gameplay I've seen has looked solid and amazing. I have a feeling this game will be to RCT what Cities Skyline was to Simcity. Have you bought is and if so, how is the experience with the alpha right now?

Agreed, it looks bloody brilliant. I'm not in the Alpha - pledged back in February through the Frontier Store for the Standard version only.

Sadly the alpha option ended last month, else I'd probably be like you right now and would have upped my pledge. There is a version available (The Thrillseeker Edition) that includes a couple of extras - soundtrack, digital art, etc, and has Beta access, but as that is scheduled to happen only two weeks before full release anyway, I'm not sure it's worth it.

If you, or anyone else for that matter, is thinking about pre-ordering right now, I'd recommend doing it through the Frontier Store and use GBP as the currency. Thrillseeker Edition is £29.99 (R536) vs. R630 on Steam, Standard Edition is £26.99 (R482) vs. R567 on Steam.

Thanks for the info. I'm sad that the alpha is over, but I'll probably end up pre-order it closer to release date.

And a dark track ride to show off triggered events - lights, effects, animatronics, etc:

So for the first time I actually had a look at what this game is like by watching those videos and... I'm impressed, it looks amazing! Especially when I have RCT 3 in mind when I think of theme park sims - the detail is understandably far more advanced.

Gosh darnit! Why you do dis?!

Care to make a Steam friend happy by temporarily gifting a certain game? ;)

Here I was, all ready to deliver this:

...when what do I notice? This:

Despite that, I'm actually surprised that our resident Frontier fan took so long to add a copy of Planet Coaster to their library. Would have thought you'd have done it ages ago just to thank the Frontier devs for all the hours of enjoyment they've given you in Elite D.

* actually, the gift copy is for my daughter who turns 16 next week and is getting a shiny new laptop as her present. I'm not even sharing my copy with her, so your chances were pretty damn slim :)

Haha I only just received a copy, courtesy of a friend. I would love to have bought into alpha and what what, timing has just been off.
